Job Description

Registered Nurse- Outpatient Endoscopy Center

Consults with nurse manager concerning administrative issues and problems.

Assesses, evaluates, and accurately documents patient’s pre-procedure and post sedation status. Provides supportive care. Maintains accurate and complete endoscopy records.

Initiates emergency measures as indicated.

Administers medication in accordance with physician orders.

Initiates IV placement and management in a safe and accurate manner.

Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury.

Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, documenting problems, and reporting problems to immediate supervisor.

Initiates patient teaching and discusses discharge instructions.

Assists in endoscopy procedure rooms as needed

Process and sterilize endoscopic equipment

Provides guidance to other staff members. Assists with orientations.

Maintains environmental safety and cleanliness.

Maintains available supplies for patient care.

Consults with appropriate supervisor or physicians as needed.

Attends required meeting and participates in committees as requested.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Attends conferences and workshops.

Performs related work as required.

Requires handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Involves standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and chemical exposure . Contact with other staff, patients, and the public.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience: Two years of nursing experience preferred.

License/certificate: Possession of a Pennsylvania Registered Nursing License

Basic Life Support/ Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate

ALTERNATIVE TO MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement. Endoscopy experience.
