Title: Personal Care Attendant (Florida PACE Centers)

Job Summary

Performs participant care activities and other tasks as assigned to assist the Nursing and Therapeutic Recreation staff.

Essential Job Functions

Provides basic nursing assistance to participants as established in department’s policies and procedures.( i.e.: toileting, feeding, transportation and bathing when needed)

Documents treatments/procedures, observations, nursing care and participant care activities on appropriate forms per established department guidelines, when needed

Takes assigned participants monthly weight and reports results to PACE dietician

Ensures that resident’s/participant’s rights are adhered to

Participates in departmental activities, multidisciplinary team meetings, department meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines as needed

Completes monthly training in a timely manner

Assists with monthly outings when assigned

Participates in a structured rotation program that provides cross training for all PCA duties in the PACE program

Job Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma preferred

Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Program

Experience:

3 months clinical experience as a CNA preferred

Minimum one-year experience working with a frail/elderly population

Licenses/Certifications:

Certified by the State of Florida as a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing

Current American Heart Association BLS Certification

Valid Florida Driver’s License & Proof of Insurance

Current CPR Certification

Abilities Required

Good communication skills

Ability to speak read and write English and Spanish, knowledge of Creole a plus

Ability to think and act calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job

Demonstrates a caring attitude toward PACE participants, participants, family members, employees, and other facility guests

Functional Demands

Environment Work Conditions:

Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation

Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; bio-hazardous waste; flammable, explosive gas

Must be able to lift/turn participants

Infectious Material Exposure:

Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues

Florida PACE Centers at Miami Jewish Health is one of the largest Programs for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) in the state of Florida. We currently serve over 900 participants spread over four locations: Hialeah, Westchester, Miramar, and our main campus in the Buena Vista neighborhood of Miami. PACE is a comprehensive, fully integrated, provider-based health program for those who require and a nursing home level of care. The PACE philosophy is centered on the belief that it is better for frail individuals and their families to be served in the community whenever possible. Although all PACE participants are eligible for nursing home care, 90 percent continue to live in the community.
