Sonoco's Flexible Packaging Division is looking to hire a dynamic and highly analytical Commercial Analyst to be part of our Commercial Analysis team.

The Financial Analyst - Pricing should be able to quickly understand our manufacturing processes {printing, laminating, finishing} and the raw material structures we produce.

As well as, have the interpersonal skills necessary to develop strong working relationships with all functional areas. Gatekeeping the divisions profitability, supporting profitable growth initiatives, and a high level of customer service are the Commercial Analyst’s main priorities.

The successful candidate must be highly analytical, with the ability to condense complex data sets into concise summary level detail to drive price/cost decision making. An investigative mindset along with excellent problem solving skills are a must. Accuracy of work and a process-oriented approach are equally critical.

Responsibilities:

Develop cost estimates to be used in the quotation / bid process by utilizing our Radius ERP system and other approved cost models. Understand and regulate all costing inputs. Coordinates closely with all functional areas (Supply Management, Account Technical, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Sales) to maximize accuracy. Develop pricing strategy by analyzing the following: market prices, plant capacity, plant and division profitability requirements, and raw material price trends and fluctuations. Develops and sets price levels based on applying division profit objectives as well as market pricing targets.

Continually monitor and drive improvement in the following areas: business won/lost performance, variance between expected margins and actual margins, variance between quoted standards and plant standards.

Utilizes data, analytical skills, judgment, and decision making to develop selling prices for assigned customers and markets or for new customer/product prospects. It is expected that the Commercial Analyst will take a leadership role in applying division profit objectives, identifying profit improvement opportunities, and developing pricing targets that align with market strategies.

Exercises a high level of individual decision making. Uses knowledge to maximize division profitability through analysis, good judgment, and decision-making skills. Provides oversight and takes a leadership role in the design and execution of customer price change mechanisms. Commercial Analyst should remain current on raw material cost movement and changes in manufacturing costs in order to effectively use these mechanisms to adjust selling prices.

Identify and implement margin Improvement Initiatives. Develops and maintains key customer relationships. Performs ad hoc analysis for division management as needed. Adheres to the highest degree of business ethics, sound business operating philosophy, cost accounting principles, and all company policies and procedures.

Required Skills

Strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail / accuracy

Good organizational skills specifically around the management, analysis, and processing of large amounts of data to arrive at desired outputs

Ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines

Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

The self-motivated candidate should have a proven ability to deliver efficient, high-quality performance in a pricing and modeling environment

Multi-tasking, strong collaboration and team leadership skills – with a variety of projects on-going at once

Understanding of P&L basics

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred

5+ years work experience desired

Flexible Packaging knowledge preferred

The annual base salary for this from $67,860.00 - $75,400.00
