Job SummaryThe Division of Health Policy and Insurance Research (HPI) SAS Programmer/Analyst assists with database development, software programming, data management, statistical analysis, and results reporting for a variety of internal and external projects. This detail-oriented, motivated, and independent individual will primarily work with a very large national health insurance claims dataset to generate SAS programs across an expansive research portfolio examining effects of health policies on health outcomes among commercially insured people. Under the direction of a senior biostatistician and senior project manager, this SAS Programmer will use SAS software and other technical tools to clean data, build datasets, and run statistical analyses for multiple health policy-focused research projects.

Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Design, develop, test, execute, and maintain SAS programs to perform analyses and generate both routine and ad hoc reports, in close consultation with investigators, statisticians and senior programmers.

Use SAS software to clean and troubleshoot health insurance claims data, build datasets, run statistical analyses, and produce results.

Use Excel or other programs to display user-friendly results in graphical or numerical form

Assist in the running, optimizing, or debugging of existing SAS programs; create and/or modify accompanying documentation, as appropriate.

Help develop SAS programming protocols for existing and new projects.

Assist with data quality control projects and with evaluating the efficiency of data infrastructure.

Utilize knowledge of analytic and statistical concepts, techniques, and methods in daily work.

Participate in project meetings, both via telephone and in-person.

Contribute to the development of manuscripts and reports

Qualifications – what you need to perform the job

WHAT YOU NEED:

Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or other health related field is preferred but not required.

At least 2 years of full-time work as a programmer or equivalent SAS programming experience, including macro programming and PROC SQL required. Experience transforming and analyzing administrative healthcare data (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid, other claims-based or electronic medical records databases) is preferred.

Experience with epidemiologic and biostatistics principles and methods and programming experience using Stata is preferred.

Ability to prioritize work, operate under tight deadlines, and meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Proficiency with software packages, including Microsoft Office suite.
