Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a talented professional for the role of Manager – Basic Services (WASH, Waste Management, Energy) for its Latin America & the Caribbean region. Reporting to the Assoc. Director, SMEs, Manager – Basic Services and Climate Change (WASH, Waste Management, Energy) is responsible for leading the design, planning, implementation, overall coordination, and monitoring of WASH infrastructure interventions, within LAC. The purpose of the position is to support the improvement of access to sustainable WASH, waste management, energy services connected to climate change challenges. In carrying out the work, this Basic Services professional interacts with other regional/national/headquarters staff, partner organizations and contracted subject matter experts (SMEs).

This position will be remotely-based within a country in the Latin America & Caribbean region where Habitat has an entity and the employee can already legally work.

This position seeks to contribute to reaching greater impact in LAC, addressing the root causes related to inequality to basic services access, as well as the drivers increasing the basic services deficits such as climate change, urbanization, and migration. This position must support the strengthening of the local oriented roles identified in the regional strategic framework: direct implementation, catalyst, and integrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the development and strengthening of basic services capacities and strategies in the region ( WASH, waste management and energy in connection with urbanization and climate change).

Support National Offices to design and prepare proposals, reports, concept notes and other documents for donors or partners with the lens of mitigation - adaptation to climate change.

Accompany National Organizations in the implementation of catalytic projects with a systemic approach in the area of basic services with the lens of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

Plan and organize capacity development programs/initiatives in the network for basic services.

Promote innovation focused on adaptation and mitigation of technical solutions, processes, and community preparation.

Apply the lenses of a systemic approach and a people-centered approach in the design, planning and implementation of projects and programs.

Promote and facilitate the participation of national organizations in regional networks related to Basic Services and climate change.

Develop with the support of MEAL team, Key Performance Indicators on Basic Services projects and programs.

Supports the resource development team in mobilizing resources towards Basic Services projects.

Represents HFHI in local/regional/global internal/external meetings and events related to Basic Services projects.

Coordinate and connect with Basic Services team at global level.Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical engineering or Geological/Environmental Engineering. Master’s Degree related to Environment, Climate Change or similar. Candidates must have certifications in WASH, waste management, energy, and Climate Change.

Experience in planning and developing projects in urban, peri-urban and rural areas with a clear understanding of WASH-waste management-energy, and climate change nexus.

8+ years’ experience in basic services infrastructure projects (tender procedure, design, planning, implementation, budgeting, reporting, evaluation, and monitoring) and good understanding of current WASH, waste management, energy and climate change trends and indicators.

Strong project management background with the ability to implement projects within a budget and time frame.

Strong technical writing in Spanish, English (grant proposals and reports). French is an added advantage.

Understands and develop disaster WASH contexts and must have at least 5 years of experience working in both contexts.

Experience in negotiating with multiple donors and understand donor requirements and how to meet them.

Adult training skills, as well as capacity building, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Fluent in English and Spanish (oral and written). Ability to speak and write French is an added advantage.

Ability to think strategically to place WASH, waste management, energy connected to climate change challenges beyond “business as usual”; resourceful and creative.

A high level of diplomacy and networking skills; cross-cultural sensitivity.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Spanish and English are a must).

Excellent organizational skills including accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail.

Ability to work under minimal or no supervision, while also able to be a team player and ready to work in a team building environment.

Computer literate and able to use AutoCAD and ArcGIS.

Ability to travel up to 40%, mostly within LAC.
