MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marina Equipment Operator I is responsible for:

Operating hydraulic trailers and travel lift to haul, launch, and block power and sailboats up to 60’ and 50 tons.

Operating forklifts and telehandlers for various functions.

Carrying out preventive maintenance inspections and basic service on equipment, including but not limited to engine, hydraulic and electrical.

Providing safe disposal of all waste material.

Assisting as directed by Marina Facilities Lead with hauling and launching operations.

Performing frequent equipment inspections to identify issues requiring maintenance, repair, or replacement. Issues are reported to Marina Facilities Lead to maintain safety and cleanliness standards.

Operating company-owned vessels.

Assisting with fueling operations and ensures safe refueling procedures.

Assisting with customer repairs and services including, but not limited to; bottom painting, pressure washing, decommissioning/commissioning, and mast repairs.

Following Birdon’s Safety and Environmental rules and completing required related training.

Wearing proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets, and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.

Reporting all accidents, injuries, spills, and near misses immediately.

Other duties as assigned by Marina Facilities Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

All Levels

High school diploma or GED.

CT Safe Boating Certified (SBC)

Ability to ascent and descend a ladder.

Ability to work from platform lifts.

Basic boat handling skills and experience.

Must carry valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Broad set of tools for mechanical service and repairs.

Experience with both gas and diesel engine essential maintenance.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.

Technical School Training - Desirable

Level I

Minimum (1) year of proven experience/qualifications in the safe operation of travel lifts, crates, telehandlers, hydraulic trailers, and forklifts.

Level II

Minimum (2) years of proven experience/qualifications in the safe operation of travel lifts, crates, telehandlers, hydraulic trailers, and forklifts.

Level III

Minimum (3-5) years of proven experience/qualifications in the safe operation of travel lifts, crates, telehandlers, hydraulic trailers, and forklifts.

Level IV

Minimum 7+ years of proven experience/qualifications in the safe operation of travel lifts, cranes, telehandlers, hydraulic trailers, and forklifts.

Ensure task risk assessments are conducted to carry out all work safely.

Commitment to a focus on safety and a culture of hazard identification and control.

Compliance with company policies and procedures to protect themselves, work colleagues and the environment.

Report all incidents, hazards and near misses, including environmental cases.

Follow all quality control and assurance systems in place.

Take part in annual performance appraisals.

Participate and follow any fitness for work or recover at work plans implemented for the individual.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.

Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 75 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to strand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protection and work boots.

Marina Facilities Department Contractual Performance.

Annual performance review.

RELATIONSHIPS

This role requires a good relationship with the individuals and teams across the Production and Project delivery organizations to ensure Birdon achieves the safe completion of the agreed work, in the time required.

Your communication and direct contact with Birdon clients are an important aspect of this position. It is your responsibility to ensure that Birdon's values and interests are maintained during your relationship with clients, subcontractors, visitors, suppliers, and employees.
