World Relief seeks a Contextualized English Language Instructor.

This position has the primary responsibility for providing Contextualized English language instruction for adult refugees and immigrants in the areas of Workforce Readiness, Financial Literacy, Career Readiness, and Career-Specific ELA Instruction.

This position helps students gain contextualized English language proficiency for job and career readiness, workplace upskilling, and academic readiness (for additional vocational and/or postsecondary enrollment). Instructors facilitate students moving toward stability and healthy integration into the community and workplace.

Instruction may occur in-person, in a hybrid model, or remotely during day and evening hours.

Instruction includes multiple-literacies, English language skills development, and career-based vocabulary and language/literacy needs.

This position collaborates with other ELA instructors, Student Success Coaches, and other departments to holistically meet student need.

This role is for our Carol Stream, IL office.

Instruction

Provide student-centered, contextualized English language instruction for adult refugees and immigrants in the areas of Workforce Readiness, Financial Literacy, Career Readiness, and Career-Specific ELA Instruction.

Design scaffolded multi-level lesson plans and corresponding materials focused on contextualized English language skills, driven by World Relief curricula, Illinois ELA Content Standards, College & Career Readiness Standards, grantor requirements, and Bridge molds.

Develop lessons appropriate to method of delivery: in-person, remote, or hybrid.

Integrate civics education, digital literacy, relevant math concepts, and career pathways into rigorous English Language instruction and practice.

Work closely with Student Success Coaches and Career Pathways Specialists to ensure students are transitioning to the next level of employment, post-secondary education, and/or credentialing for career attainment.

Create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible, engaging, and active.

Assessment & Record Keeping

Conduct student assessments and attendance.

Complete monthly reports (i.e., attendance, lesson plan summaries, etc.) as scheduled to ensure program compliance.

Complete quarterly stories as scheduled to support development efforts.

Track professional development on appropriate forms and with certificates. Professional Development

Complete a minimum of fifteen hours of professional development each fiscal year.

Share teaching skills, materials, information, and ideas in department professional development meetings.

Attend staff meetings and other trainings as required.

Participate in Adult Education Department meetings or events.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of Second Language Acquisition Teaching Methods for Adults

Knowledge of and experience with contextualized ELA instruction

Develop communicative and engaging lesson plans and implement them to assist students in contextualized English language acquisition

M.A. in TESOL or MA/BA in related field (Linguistics, English, Education) with an approved TESOL Certificate, and/or a degree in a contextualized field with a TESOL certificate

Digital literacy skills

Adult ESOL teaching experience preferred
