Salary: $17.45 - $23.43 per hour

JOB TITLE: Professional School Bus Driver
(Level 11; 182 days employment Contract)
REQUIREMENTS
A. Educational Level: High school diploma or equivalent
B. Benefits Heath Insurance Coverage
C. Experience Desired: Successful completion of Virginia Department of Education’s training to operate a school bus and all Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles written and practical pre-trip
and on road tests pertaining to a commercial’s driver’s license. Driver must also have current certification in First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and at
least three years driving experience.
D. Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time. Requires significant climbing, grasping and repetitive motions. Regularly requires the employee to lift and/or move
up to 50 lbs. without assistance and assist with students weighing up to 100 lbs. May require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking and
pushing. Must be able to pass an annual physical to operate a school bus, which includes specific vision test to include: close, distance, color, peripheral and depth
perception vision and the ability to adjust focus.
E. Working Conditions:
Occasionally subjected to mechanical break down of vehicle.
Atmospheric conditions may occasionally causes road hazards.
Also, possible exposure to a variety of childhood diseases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Conduct pre-trip inspections of school bus/car for defects prior to every trip
Transports students using established routes and designated stops
Operates bus/car on approved time schedule
Stays informed and respond appropriately to schedule changes
Enforces safety rules, documents student disciplinary incidents on discipline reports and submits to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
Drives defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other drivers, teachers, students, parents and other school staff
Demonstrates knowledge of state and local laws and ordinances that pertain to the operation of school buses/cars
Accurately completes and maintains up to date route sheets on bus/car at all times
Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required by division’s regulations.
Attends all in-service safety meetings
Attends first aid and defensive driving class required by school division, also attend required meetings
Takes responsibility for maintaining the bus/car by taking it to the transportation garage for scheduled maintenance and when necessary, unscheduled maintenance. Also, the driver is responsible for cleanliness of the vehicle he or she is driving
Reports to law enforcement incidents involving vehicles passing school bus stop sign and appears in court when summoned
Pass pre-employment safety and annual physical testing and all random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Evaluation: Annual evaluation performed by Coordinator of Operations
