Requirements:
Education: Obtain a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy or a related field. Many aspiring occupational therapists pursue a Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy (OT). Make sure the program you choose is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
Fieldwork Experience: Complete supervised fieldwork experience as part of your OT program. This provides hands-on training in various settings, including schools.
Certification: After completing your education, you'll need to pass the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. This certification is required for licensure in most states, including Pennsylvania.
Licensure: Apply for licensure through the Pennsylvania State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure. Requirements may include submitting transcripts, proof of NBCOT certification, and possibly passing a state jurisprudence exam.
Clearances: Obtain the necessary clearances required to work with children in Pennsylvania schools. This typically includes criminal background checks, child abuse clearances, and possibly FBI fingerprinting.
