Our client has operated in northern Alberta for more than 75 years manufacturing forest products for both domestic and international markets.

Position Overview

The President is responsible for managing the company and making major corporate decisions.

This position provides overall direction to the company directly and/or through managers and supervisors and oversees growth plans.

Accountable to the shareholders / directors of the company, the President is the public face of the company with responsibility for guiding the company towards continued success and profitability.

Responsibilities include:

Developing, setting, and executing organizational strategies, setting vision, values and culture. This includes regular meetings and communication with the Board to develop and provide updates on the organization’s strategic goals.

Ensures the implementation of policies and practices necessary for the organization to fulfill its obligations and achieve its goals. Communicates and engages with the Board in-between regular meetings to ensure timely reporting.

Communicating effectively with all stakeholders. Provide regular meetings and communications with shareholders to build and maintain strong relationships, attain shareholder support on organization programs, and resolve specific issues. Network with shareholders to ensure understanding and alignment with the organization’s overall direction.

Develop a strong, cohesive, and motivated senior management team. Review and recommend policies that enable management to achieve results while promoting workplace values. Ensure management development and employee training programs are in place to maximize the organization’s human resources potential. Align purpose, performance agreements and deliverables of senior management with the long-range strategic plans approved by the Board.

Assess capital equipment effectiveness, ROI, and make capital allocation decisions as required.

Review and provide daily support for various company programs and initiatives (e.g. HR, IT, Operations, Finance, Purchasing, Marketing, Advertising, etc.). Provide oversight on regular reviews of key metrics (financials, inventory, expenses, sales, returns, etc.). Support operations in all aspects of the business including Health and Safety, Employee Relations, Provincial and Federal regulations.

Making swift and effective internal and external decisions related to the company’s markets, trends, and strategic growth to ensure continued profitability.

Liaise with vendors and customers to build and maintain strong relationships.

Sit on industry boards and associations.

Desired Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably an advanced master’s degree in business.

Extensive work experience in the forestry or related industry having held several different positions leading to understanding the different aspects of the company/industry and the ability to make informed decisions.

Specific experience with sawmill and planer mill production line equipment a real asset.
