JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and/or the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing daily technical dispensing-related activities (including the release of final product) in accordance with established corporate procedures and provincial pharmacy laws.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Adherence to company's commitment to, and policy on “Patient Safety”
Adherence to corporate, regulatory and individual responsibilities supporting company's Quality Management Program, supporting policies, procedures, work instructions, and software (QSi).
Adherence to corporate and individual responsibilities to health and safety in the workplace.
Maintains knowledge of and adheres to NAPRA’s Model Standards of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians and any provincial regulations for Pharmacy Technician practice
Perform final release of designated pharmaceutical products, and accept accountability for ensuring 100% accuracy of product, labelling, and all components against prescription and worksheet according to corporate policies, procedures and work instructions
Ensures that all prescriptions (new and refilled) have been clinically reviewed and signed off by a Pharmacist, before releasing the product
Accurately perform and verify complex calculations related to prescription formulations
Performs TPN syringe checks to ensure accurate volume of components
Releases TPN orders ensuring correct components, weight, refractometer reading, labelling and refers to a pharmacist if problems
Signs off on TPN filter integrity tests, and refers any failures to the Pharmacist immediately
Recognize when a patient or prescription order requires the assessment of a Pharmacist and ensure referral of the patient or prescription order to the pharmacist
Answers patient/caregiver, CCAC and other health care provider questions about patients’ prescription information and medication history, and knows when to refer the caller to a pharmacist – How much interaction with patients, and caregivers will they have?
Maintains IV cleanroom certification and compounds IV/TPN as required
Performs the second check of IV additives volumes in the cleanroom as required
Responsible for understanding and adhering to company's patient safety policies and procedures.
Maintain up-to-date training designated for this position via QSi
QUALIFICATIONS
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T. designation) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
1-2 years of sterile IV compounding experience
Very strong attention to detail, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, zero-defect environment
Demonstrated ability to be accountable for work produced and action taken is required
Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Experience in programming CADD ambulatory pumps preferred
