Objective
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for maintenance activities at the Dundas Quarry which is Lafarge's largest mining operation in Eastern Canada. The Maintenance Supervisor’s primary focus is to help lead the health and safety of the maintenance department while leveraging maintenance excellence to achieve optimized plant reliability at the lowest overall cost. The Maintenance Supervisor will lead by example supporting alignment with all functional groups, including Safety, Environment, Land, and Manufacturing driving communication and consistency while meeting all necessary Safety & Environmental policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
Safety Culture:
Help facilitate a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm;
Lead daily huddles to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety;
Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work; Assist in the preparation for and participation in periodic health & safety site audits; and assist in the administration of the site Contractor Safety Management program, by completing site orientations, where required, and regularly auditing contractor performance to ensure compliance to applicable local and regional health & safety policies.
Human Resources:
Supports the administration and management of the local collective and hourly working agreements with site employees.
Directly responsible for the motivation, scheduling and training of all production personnel to promote customer focus, operational efficiency and skill development.
Production Management:
Assist in Determining manpower requirements and shift scheduling to meet maintain a optimal level of backlog maintenance;
Establish and manage maintenance schedule; Manage and drive meeting daily maintenance targets;
Responsible for participating in the short-term and long term planning and execution of maintenance.
Involved in the daily implementation and compliance to the Maintenance Module, including but not limited to creating job plans, completing equipment inspection logs, and managing maintenance backlogs.
Financial Management:
Assist in development and adherence to annual maintenance (repair) budgets;
Participate in Budget reviews to ensure accuracy and to help identify cost reduction opportunities;
Customer Focus:
Coordinate with Quality and shipping personnel to address shipping quality issues related to maintenance issues.
Land Management:
Assists with site level compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requirements, including but not limited to site plans, rehabilitation and dust control.
Environmental Management:
Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the site Environmental Management System (EMS);
Assist in preparation for and participate in environmental site audits; and ensures all direct reports comply with operational standards developed to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
Community Relations:
If required, act as contact with relevant stakeholders in the local community, including neighbours, competitors and government officials.
Relationships with Others Functions:
Reports to Maintenance Manager
Assists in managing all maintenance personnel including subcontractors under direction of the Maintenance Manager
Works closely with Safety, Production, Shipping, Quality, Land and Environmental personnel.

Land: Dust and Noise control
Labor: Shift Schedules, People Development and Management, Union Agreements
Production: Manufacturing KPI’s, Maintenance management, Daily maintenance sheets & meeting, Downtime reports
Maintenance KPI’s, Assist in budget management and financial tracking

Qualification Profile
Education/Work Experience:
Grade 12 Diploma, College Degree in Engineering or Business would be definite asset.
A minimum of five years Supervisory/Managerial experience working in a similar environment
Experience in Welding and or Millwright trade is a definite asset
Knowledge & Skills:
Understanding of general accounting principles is an asset
Good organization and planning skills
Proficiency with various computer applications
Excel, Word, Power Point, SAP
Knowledge of the aggregate industry is preferred
Good written and verbal communications
Strong analytical skills, research, problem solving and decision making
Good time management, self directed, uses time wisely, can attend to a broad range of activities
