Do you enjoy working on a variety of projects and identifying opportunities for business process improvements? We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to join us at Thinkific!

As the Assistant Controller at Thinkific, you will be a high-impact member of the accounting team, reporting to the Controller. You will be passionate about process improvement as well as developing and maintaining strong internal controls. You will provide insights for decision making. You will be joining a high performing and hard-working team that values having fun at work. Your position will be an integral part of the team.

Your key goal will be to execute on the full accounting cycle. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this:

Own and continuously improve the month and quarter-end processes for the financial operations of the company.

Oversee the Company’s treasury policies and procedures, including cash management, accounts payable review and execution, and monitoring the A/R cycle

Manage relationships with bankers and investment brokers

Provide support on the quarterly Financial statements, including note preparation and review

Identify and execute opportunities to drive efficiency, accuracy, and impact across all areas of the accounting and financial operations of the Company, including improvements to processes involving our tools, such as Workday Financials

Manage review and approval of stock based compensation plans and associated journal entries

Review technical accounting memos evaluating material transactions and ad-hoc transactions of the Company

Support the external audit, including liaising with external auditors, responding to audit queries, preparing audit working papers as appropriate, and ensuring the timely completion of all audit procedures;

Mentor and lead team members and help to grow the Finance team to support organizational needs

Work directly with the Controller, Accounting Manager and Financial Reporting Manager, to scale the financial operations at the Company

The person we have in mind likely:

Has 8+ years of full cycle accounting experience, with 4 years post-designation experience preferred

Has previous experience at a Big 4 accounting firm

Holds a CPA designation

Has experience managing and overseeing a small team and cross-departmental projects

Possesses advanced knowledge in Excel or Google Sheets and feels comfortable with large data sets

Can think critically and solve problems independently - past experience implementing accounting improvements

Is highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management and communication skills

Loves to learn and grow. They’ve found (and keep looking for) ways to level up their skills in this field, whether that’s through formal education or gaining professional experience

These things would also be nice, but we think you could learn them on the job:

Experience working in the technology industry

Familiarity with Workday Financials

Familiarity with Stripe or other payment processing systems

The recruitment compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $137,000 CAD. Your specific compensation within this range is determined based on your job-related skills, knowledge, experience, and our internal equity assessment.
