Lighting Designer

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

Federal Work Study student may apply.

In good disciplinary standing.

Must be located in the U.S.

lighting designer (LD) is in charge of all decisions regarding stage lighting for a given show. Actual involvement varies, depending on setup time and complexity of the event, ranging from basic color mixing “on the fly” for improvisation based music, through carefully following a script for Musical Theater; with a big emphasis on large scale productions involving rental equipment.

Basic duties include:

Creation of a plan, either individually or in conjunction with the event leader, for color palette, and basic focus of stage elements;

Set up and connections for any additional instruments chosen during the planning stage;

Focusing of lights in specific areas of the stage, following the setup of music elements on stage;

Display of a portion of the plan, subject to approval by event leader;

Perform any changes needed from previous step;

Coordination with video personnel for optimization of live stream and concert look;

Troubleshooting and maintenance of lighting instruments/dimmers;

Prerequisites:

All candidates must be current members of the Stage Crew;

Participation in our training program is mandatory;

Willingness to (safely) climb heights;

Some weekend availability is a must;
