MacDonald Devin Madden Kenefick & Harris, PC is a well-established, full-service defense litigation firm in North Dallas. Our practice encompasses construction, personal injury, premise liability and personal injury insurance defense. The firm is seeking an experienced and self-directed civil litigation paralegal with heavy insurance defense experience. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, with strong organizational and communication skills.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Generates revenue by meeting billable hour and other timekeeping expectations set forth by the firm. Proactively secures billable work, which may require working across teams. Maintains current and accurate daily time log; inputs time records into firm's time and accounting systems according to firm and outside counsel guidelines. Accounts for complete workday.

Draft pleadings, motions, discovery/subpoenas and other documents as assigned.

Order third-party records.

Review, analyze, organize and summarize case documents/discovery materials to proactively identify new areas of discovery.

Prepare information and materials for attorneys in advance of depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations and trial by preparing and organizing exhibits, assisting with client meetings, filing motions, conducting research on legal articles, and organizing and coordinating witnesses.

Assure that the team’s litigation calendars are accurately maintained and organized.

Follows ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the state.

Ability to handle pressure, interruptions, and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities in an efficient manner, rapid turnaround required, and generally perform in a fast-paced environment.

Works under minimal supervision and shows initiative.

Acts as a role model for co-workers by setting standards for work product, ethics, professionalism, teamwork, and attitude.

Proficient in all software; ability to adjust to multiple tasks from multiple individuals in the Firm.

Qualifications

3+ years’ experience as a paralegal in an insurance defense firm with State Court and Federal litigation experience.

Four-year Bachelors’ degree and/or two-year ABA approved Paralegal Certificate preferred but not required.

Proficiency in Windows applications, Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Pro, and file sharing programs.

Effective communicator and committed team player that possesses a strong work ethic.

Strong organizational skills are required in this fast-paced work environment.

Working knowledge/experience utilizing the Texas Rules of Civil Procedures.

Working experience in answering discovery, medical summaries/chronologies.

Positive attitude and exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required for daily interaction with clients, opposing counsel and mediators.

Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and poise in handling sensitive and confidential information.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality.
