Job Description
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a Paint Engineer to develop new paint technologies and support North and South American production through collaborative work with Engineering Design, Manufacturing, and Plant Purchasing divisions. This role is located in our Materials Development Department at our Superior Township, MI (just East of Ann Arbor) location.
In this role you will:
Validate paint technologies and production materials (paint, e-coat, wax, etc.) for newly launching vehicles. Includes patent submissions, R & D projects, co-work with Hyundai Motor Group, suppliers, and the Hyundai R&D center in Namyang, South Korea.
Implement new paint colors for North and South American production, which includes co-work with Hyundai and Kia Design studios, Purchasing and Manufacturing divisions, and Hyundai R&D center in South Korea.
Audit quality of current production coatings (paint, e-coat, wax), and participate in vehicle quality teardowns and evaluations.
Support Hyundai Motor Group and North / South American manufacturing locations with quality issues relating to paint, e-coat, and wax by consulting with plant manufacturing locations and associated suppliers to identify and resolve production problems.
Conduct laboratory testing of materials to evaluate material performance. Direct lab technicians on testing, analyze results and report findings to Management.
Benchmark industry activities and report results to appropriate departments.
Improve the quality of current Hyundai and Kia painted (paint, e-coat, wax) production parts.
Assist in planning and monitoring of department budgets.
Create and present technical reports as assigned.
Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.
Perform additional projects as assigned.
Travel up to 20% of time domestically and internationally.

Experience and Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Coating Technology, Polymer Science; Other degrees may be considered based on relevant experience
0-2 years of experience in materials, coatings, or paint engineering
Valid Driver's License and Satisfactory Driving Record
