Responsibilities:
Design and develop innovative, cutting-edge mechanical components, electromechanical system parts, and assemblies with the aim of obtaining dependable, high-performance solutions
Leverage CAD software to conduct modeling and simulation for design components including dynamic system modeling, kinematic analysis, structural evaluations, and thermal assessments
Construct and analyze prototypes and test fixtures to validate designs, ensure repeatability and identify areas for improvement
Maintain documentation of design processes, specifications, and test results as per industry standards and regulatory guidelines
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality and procurement to optimize product designs for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing processes
Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with vendors for prototyping and manufacturing processes; manage vendor performance to ensure quality and timely delivery of components and products
Support production tasks such as method sheet creation, tooling, and process qualification
Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring the successful resolution of issues as they arise
Spearhead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices in all aspects of mechanical design and development
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred
5+ years of experience in mechanical design and development within the aerospace, automotive, or motorsport industry, experience in the medical device industry a plus
Proficiency in CAD Software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) and engineering analysis tools (MATLAB, Microsoft Excel)
Experience with PDM and PLM systems
Familiarity with programming languages (Python, C++)
Proven track record of leading large assembly projects from concept to production
Familiarity with electrical systems, wiring, and design for PCB fixturing and enclosures
Competency in designing and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems
SAE International membership or participation in SAE events and competitions a plus
Experience with FIRST Robotics or VEX Robotics competitions as a participant, mentor, or volunteer a plus
