OVERVIEW

Prince George’s Christian Academy (PGCA) seeks a dedicated K-8 Music Teacher with a vibrant Christian testimony to join our team. The Music Teacher will play a pivotal role in fostering students' musical abilities while nurturing their spiritual growth in a Christ-centered environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and deliver engaging music lessons for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, integrating biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education into the curriculum.

Organize and oversee various student productions, including Christmas and Resurrection Sunday productions, providing students with opportunities to showcase their musical talents and celebrate Christian faith.

Establish learning objectives consistent with student instructional needs, curriculum frameworks, and musical developmental stages.

Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and a deep appreciation for music.

Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including group activities, discussions, demonstrations, and multimedia resources, to facilitate effective music instruction.

Collaborate with colleagues and administrators in curriculum planning, assessment development, and professional learning communities.

Regularly assess student progress using appropriate evaluation methods and maintain accurate records of student performance and achievements.

Actively participate in school-wide events, performances, and extracurricular music activities, fostering school spirit and community engagement.

Foster positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community through effective communication and collaboration.

Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and integrity in all interactions with students and stakeholders.

Adhere to school policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Membership, in good standing, of a local Bible-believing church, or willingness to become a member.

Passion for education and dedication to serving the Christian community.

Agreement with our Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.

Gracious and Christ-like demeanor, particularly in challenging situations.

Understanding and appreciation for the ministry and mission of PGCA.

Eligible for appropriate music teaching certification or licensure, preferred.

Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.

Prior teaching experience in music education, preferably in a K-8 school setting.

Proficiency in playing multiple musical instruments and conducting vocal ensembles.

Knowledge of music theory, history, composition, and performance techniques.

Familiarity with current trends, resources, and technology in music education.

Excellent communication skills and ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning in the field of music education.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Music Education or related field required.

A minimum of one (1) year of successful teaching experience in music education, preferably in a K-8 school setting.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Holds or is eligible for a Standard Professional Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
