Purpose of Position

The Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Controller in various financial and accounting functions within the organization. The Accounting Manager will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, adherence to GAAP and cost accounting principles, and the efficient operation of the accounting department. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, audit procedures, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. They will also be responsible for a team of staff accountants, providing guidance and support to ensure the team's success.

Essential Functions

Financial Reporting and Compliance

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and assist with external audits and financial reviews.

Champion the execution and completion of internal and external audit activities and SOX testing.

Review financial data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.

Key driver of the monthly closing process to ensure timely delivery of balance sheet reconciliations.

Conduct ad hoc tasks such as timely response on Fortive home office inquiries, chart of accounts mapping, and other financial analyses and management reporting projects.

Cost Accounting and Inventory Management

Supervise the cost accounting function, including the accurate valuation of inventory and the analysis of production costs.

Develop and maintain cost accounting methodologies to support decision-making and improve operational efficiency.

Monitor inventory levels and inventory costing methods, finding opportunities for optimization and cost reduction.

Capital Expenditure and Fixed Asset Management

Manage and maintain an accurate and up-to-date fixed asset register, including the acquisition, disposal, and depreciation of assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.

Drive organizational alignment on capital forecast and actual implementation.

Team Leadership and Development

Manage and mentor a team of staff accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster professional growth and development.

Delegate responsibilities effectively and ensure the timely completion of tasks to meet due dates and objectives.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and accountability.

Education & Experience Required

Minimum of five years in advancing responsibility accounting roles (preferably within a manufacturing environment or in a public accounting firm)

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting

Robust knowledge of US GAAP, cost accounting, and audit procedures

Excellent interpersonal skills - collaborative with internal/external customers, team members, and cross-functional collaborators

Experience managing small teams

Effective communications skills – including written, verbal and listening skills

Strong analytical skills to diagnose and troubleshoot sophisticated datasets

Organized, with a strong process and detail focus to deliver high quality and timely results

High energy, bias for action with continuous improvement mentality; recognizes and resolves issues

Team-player with the ability and willingness to take on challenges

Excellent digital literacy, particularly MS Excel

ERP system experience (JDE and HFM/OneStream ideal)
