Who We Are

Justice for Greenwood (JFG) is a nationally recognized Civil Rights, 501(c)(3) advocacy organization founded in April 2020 as an outgrowth of our founder and executive director’s 25+ years of work fighting for justice and reparations for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre The goals of our organization are to secure economic justice, racial justice, and reparations for those who built Greenwood and were impacted by the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and its continuing harm. Our current work focuses on public education, advocacy, direct services, and impact litigation through our three core programs:

We Are Greenwood Oral History and Genealogy Project. Documents the lineage of every individual and entity that experienced the Massacre and its immediate aftermath and collects the stories and amplify the history the Massacre and the lived and inherited experiences of those impacted.

Fight for Our Rights and Dignity Legal and Policy Advocacy. Identify and fight for policies and laws that restore the wealth, property and ‘rights and dignity’ of the founders of Greenwood and the victims of the Massacre

BTW Initiative Education and Truth Telling. Through education and truth telling, we ensure that the history, stories, and truth about Greenwood, Black Wall Street, the Tulsa Race Massacre, and its continuing harm is preserved, accessible and told.

What We Are looking For

JFG seeks a Managing Director to build our organizational infrastructure and capacity. The Managing Director is a new position that will work closely Executive Director, Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons, to provide strategic advisement, oversee plan implementation, manage day-to-day operations, and build institutional systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Ensure Foundation goals are achieved through programming and advocacy.

Serve as a critical thought partner to the Executive Director and provide direct support to ensure there is follow through on important opportunities, strong collaboration among colleagues and ensure key objectives, priorities and deadlines are met.

Play an integral role, in coordination with the Executive Director, in setting JFG’s strategic priorities in the short and long term.

Provide in-depth program management expertise, support, and execution on developing strategic plans to driving tactical implementation.

Draft communications and written documents for the Executive Director as needed.

Program Development and Management

Support the Executive Director in planning, executing, and managing JFG’s program initiatives.

Operations

Enhance, design, and oversee operational systems, processes, and policies including HR, budget and finance, internal communication, social media, and other functions to make sure JFG runs smoothly day to day.

Develop, refine, and maintain internal communication norms to ensure that staff has the information they need and have clear ways of providing feedback on

Manage existing employees and contractors.

Oversee hiring of additional staff.

Manage vendor contracts and relationships.

Ensure the team is working efficiently and in line with key priorities.

Define organizational priorities and manage JFG’s overall objectives, timelines, deliverables, and outcomes.

Anticipate problems, elevate issues that require attention, and exhibit sensitivity to issues that require diplomacy.

Ensure maintenance, documentation and record keeping of LPR client cases and other agency reporting requirements.

Participates with development staff in grant management, data collection, compliance, and reporting.

Communications and Development

Oversee communication updates and other priority stakeholder communications until Communications Manager is hired.

Manage development team, including Director of Grants, and our development consultants until Director of Development is hired.

Oversee the selection of appropriate case stories for use in reports, advocacy materials, and public education and providing expert testimony to media on current North Tulsa property development related law and policy topics.

Oversee the selection of appropriate marketing materials, campaigns, and platforms in collaboration with JFG communications and senior staff.

Organizational Representation

Ensure appropriate JFG staff representation at relevant meetings, forums, and events.

Represent JFG at relevant meetings, forums and events as requested by the Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in business, management or a related field, or Professional experience may be substituted for the degree to include any equivalent combination of training, education or experience that meets the minimum qualifications.

Seven (7) years of senior level management experience.

Demonstrated expert management, leadership, organizational and strong communication skills.

Demonstrated impeccable project management and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other organizational leaders to foster success and buy-in for new policies.

Passionate about combating White Supremacy and anti-Black racism.

Passionate about creating racial, social, and economic justice and equity.

Passionate about ensuring respect, justice, and equality for everyone regardless of race, social status, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.

Effective convener and communicator.

Demonstrated a track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships. with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Organized with a strong attention to detail.

Highly organized and flexible.

Ability to work well under pressure with attention to detail.

Have a penchant for problem solving and critical thinking.

You take initiative and are adaptable to changing requirements.

Relationship oriented and demonstrated ability to build cohesive teams.

Self-aware with ability to identify strengths and weaknesses.

Preferred Qualifications

Juris Doctorate, Masters Business Administration, Masters in Public Policy, or its equivalent

Ten (10) years of senior level management experience

Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and concrete action plans

Demonstrated ability to maximum technology and A.I. to grow the organization

Bi-lingual (Spanish)

Job Status: Full-time, Exempt

Reports To: Executive Director

Compensation: Salary range for this position is $105,000 - $125,000. Pay for this position is commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
