Job Description
Salary: $25 per hour
Job Reports To: Education Director
Job Summary: The Science Park Site Director will be responsible for facilitating the pairing of volunteer tutors and children, overseeing the tutoring program, and providing educational support to families and tutors.
Major Responsibilities/Activities will include but are not limited to:
Create and maintain a warm, welcoming environment while sharing the joy and power of reading
Actively engages with students by building relationships with them and acting as a source of motivation
Facilitates the scheduling and pairing of children and tutors using Salesforce
Supervises the set up and break-down of the site, ensures supplies are neat and organized
Responsible for the safety and supervision of children
Sets high expectations for students and handles discipline problems appropriately
Oversees the review of tutor notes in students’ files along with the Assistant Site Director
Monitors instructional plans for each student in order to help all students achieve proficiency in reading
Provides support and feedback to tutors; gives advice and direction regarding literacy needs of students
Maintains records of student attendance, volunteer attendance, sign-in/out sheets, and supply inventory
Assists in scheduling CORE test administration to designated students in the fall and spring
Prepares and implements CORE Test interventions for individual students
Meets with parents as needed and provides educational support, suggestions, and guidance
Supports parents in advocating for their children at PPTs as requested by Education Director
Prepares information for weekly meeting with Education Director
Answers and makes phone calls to volunteers and families in a professional manner
Communicates with teachers at the direction of the Education Director
Supervises Assistant Site Director
Supervises interns, work study students, and Yale Reading Corps assigned to site
Acts as a substitute tutor when needed
Manages tutoring materials
Updates information in Salesforce as needed
Attends monthly Staff meetings and bi-weekly SD meetings
Requirements:
College degree, a teaching certificate or education degree in elementary education or related field preferred
2-3 years of experience working with children and families from low socio-economic backgrounds
Ability to thrive in a busy, distracting shared workspace environment
Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel
Love of children and reading
Excellent oral and written skills
Flexibility
Preferred:
Spanish a plus
Hours:
Monday – Friday 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, but schedule may vary based upon need
