Job Summary
The Study Abroad Advisor will work closely with students at all phases of the study abroad process, including outreach, advising, orientation, and credit transfer. In this role, you will become an expert on a menu of exchange and provider program opportunities around the world. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about other countries and international travel, including systems of higher education, culture, and health and safety issues. You will also interface with relevant offices, such as Registrar, Financial Aid, Bursar, and College-level study abroad liaisons and academic advisors.
Advising outbound students to exchange partners:
Oversee entire student application and enrollment management process
Create and maintain web- based orientation information
Create and maintain program information in varying formats
Become a regional expert on a range of study-abroad opportunities
Liaison to Purdue Academic Advisors:
Implement professional development programs for Purdue academic advisors, including intercultural differences in university structures and international education program goals and design
Represent Purdue Programs for Study Abroad:
Represent Purdue off-campus at professional conferences, events, and site visits
Promote study abroad by attending Study Abroad and Global Partnerships and Programs functions on campus
Meet with other Student Services departments, present study abroad options relative to curricular design and geographic location, and conduct information sessions
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
2 years of work experience in program administration or a related field
Overseas experience (at least one semester living, working and/or studying) and understanding of education abroad
Strong competency using office software applications, good communication skills, verbally, in writing, in person, and virtually, and the ability to interact effectively in a team environment with diverse groups of people
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management and the essential ability to maintain confidentiality
Nice to Have:
Master’s degree
Experience in International studies, international relations, education abroad, or higher education
Language abilities
