Must be located in Salt Lake, Provo, Ogden, Murray, Draper, American Fork, Riverton, Sandy, Bountiful, and surrounding cities

Currently contracting all languages.

Especially seeking SPANISH.

Also seeking: Cantonese, Arabic, Laotian, Nepali, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Zulu, Kinyabwisha, ASL, Italian, and Russian.

Role Summary

InterpreLink provides interpretation services primarily for health care needs. Language Interpreters facilitate communication between health care providers and limited English proficient patients. Interpreters are expected to interpret accurately and address concerns without omitting or adding information. The interpreter plays a vital role in ensuring clear and effective communication between patients and providers while adhering to the Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct pre-sessions with both patients and providers to explain the interpreter's role.

Interpret medical advice and information accurately while maintaining confidentiality.

Assure patient comprehension and assist with appointment scheduling.

Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries.

Explain cultural differences or practices to health care providers and patients when appropriate.

Exhibit a positive attitude, customer service orientation, and professionalism.

Be punctual, and adhere to the Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care.

Skills and Requirements:

Fluency in English and the non-English working language, with the ability to understand complex grammar, structure, syntax, and medical terminology in both languages. A language assessment will be required at some point during the hiring process.

Prior experience or training in medical terminology is preferred but not required, as long as the candidate is willing to learn and adapt quickly.

One year of related experience and a high school diploma or GED.

Completion of a nationally accredited 40-hour training program, such as Bridging the Gap or The Community Interpreter, or equivalent (Preferred). If not completed, candidates must be willing to complete the training. Note: 1099 subcontractors are required to pay for their training.

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle stressful situations, and cultural awareness.

Flexibility and ability to work outside normal working hours.

Pass a background check and health screening.

Job Types: Part-time/On-Call & Independent Contractor

Salary: $18.00 - $33.00 per hour (depending upon language, experience, training)

Experience

Interpreting: 1 year

Qualified or Certified Medical and Community Interpreter (Trained): 1 year (Preferred)

Education:

High school or equivalent (Preferred)
