Job Description

Position Summary:

The Social Services Assistant is responsible for programmatic oversight and coordination of services at the various shelter sites and service locations (depends on assignment).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Reports to Program Manager or assigned Shift Supervisor/Site and Services Coordinator.

Supports all Heading Home staff, other SSA’s, and Volunteers.

Conduct COVID- 19 screening as required with new and current residents.

Assists in transportation coordination.

Assists in directing new residents to their assigned spaces.

Assists in client intake process by performing an orientation for new guests.

Maintains good rapport with residents to facilitate a safe and comfortable environment.

Maintains accurate counts and file documentation.

Conflict resolution, de-escalation, and connection to behavioral health providers when appropriate.

Communicates directly with supervisor, security personnel and other staff.

Monitors all spaces.

Performs once-a-day daily check-ins with guests.

Conducts weekly room or bed checks.

Arranges room or dorm cleaning between clients and staff.

Arranges linen exchange between clients and staff.

Liaison for food delivery.

Liaison with medical providers.

Enforces policies and procedures.

Connects guest to case manager and medical providers as needed.

Is mindful of and adheres to all safety protocols.

All other assigned duties as required.

Ability to support and transport clients with developmental disabilities.

Assists in the unloading/loading of buses.

Other assigned duties.

Read, understand, and comply with all guidelines of the Heading Home Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, must be able to think strategically and act quickly. Must possess the ability to work well with others across a broad spectrum of situations. Prior experience in working with individuals experiencing homelessness and mental illness is highly desired.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.

De-escalation, trauma informed care, or similar training is highly desired.

Must be able to maintain composure under difficult situations.

Strong attention to detail.

Strong organizational and multi-tasking ability.

Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize competing demands.

Data entry and file management experience.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Reliable and a Team Player.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum High School Diploma or GED.

Practical experience working with people in customer service, or a related field is required.

Minimum one year experience working with the underserved and unhoused population is preferred.

Other Requirements:

CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.

Ability to navigate stairs and uneven terrain.
