Position Summary:

The Data Analyst queries data for clinical and non-clinical analysis. The position supports upper management decision making by compiling data into concise and accurate reports. The Data Analyst presents findings and serves as a training resource to other department team members. The position requires expertise in use of data analysis tools, critical-thinking skills, data extraction and summary, charts and graphs, and people/presentation skills.

Major Position Responsibilities:

Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.

Manages projects and researches data to facilitate business activities.

Extracts, evaluates, and interprets data and indicators. Prepares concise reports and identifies trends and issues.

Advises departmental management on appropriate indicators and statistical analysis to answer proposed questions or understand processes.

Presents and communicates data and findings to upper management and departmental staff. Prepares additional follow-up ad hoc reports in response to management concerns and requests.

Produces detailed financial, operational, and clinical reports to management with a goal of analyzing trends, and/or meeting regulatory requirements.

Maintains current understanding and expertise in data for financial and clinical systems.

Actively participate in select hospital committees and meetings as appropriate to assist in achieving goals related data analysis and reporting within assigned areas of responsibility.

Supports the Service Line & Institutes in capturing data and building requested reports trend analysis.

Qualifications:

Proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, required. MS Access, preferred.

Query and maintain department databases, including uploading/downloading of data, review and scrubbing of data elements, development of reports, queries, forms and macros necessary to ensure the usability and integrity of the data, required.

Five (5) or more years’ experience in data analysis, finance, or related area, preferred. Hospital or healthcare experience, preferred.

Good verbal and written communication skills and analytical and problem-solving skills, required.

Working knowledge of Crystal Report Writer, Lawson, Cerner, or equivalent, preferred.

High level of personal accountability for accuracy, attention to detail and completion of work assignments, required.

Ability to prioritize and maintain confidentiality, required.

Ability to present and work with all levels of personnel within facility and physician areas, required.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, management information systems or equivalent, required.

Master’s degree, preferred.
