The Emerging Opportunities Manager will develop a pipeline and manage a portfolio of new and innovative technologies and service delivery methodologies to meet VEIC’s impact goals and create a new path in collaboration with key stakeholders that leads to a decarbonized, just, flexible, healthy, and resilient energy efficient future.a

Responsibilities:

Leads the strategic development of emerging technologies and service delivery methodologies to meet impact goals and maximize a balanced energy future. The focus areas of this work could include new GHG reduction strategies, integration of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and flexible and grid-enabled buildings. These efforts could include pilot development and management.

Manages the research, analysis, and compilation of information on target markets and related technologies.

Identifies relevant stakeholder groups, builds partnerships, and guides agreement among key decision-makers to move new approaches forward.

Collaborates and coordinates with other groups to facilitate technology and service development of strategically important and prioritized opportunities.

Listens and engages with customers and partners to understand needs and barriers to better co-create new and impactful solutions through customer-centric design.

Identifies and/or creates new opportunities to bring into the organization as well -participates in prioritization and organization of all emerging technologies.

Engages in discovery, partnerships, and overcoming challenges with a systems thinking and proactive solutions approach

Leads, manages, and/or participates on cross-functional teams.

Establishes plans for effective working relationships with market partners (supply chain, design professionals, associations, etc.) to improve understanding of their business values and drivers as well as barriers to efficiency implementation.

Remains current with professional knowledge of leading-edge technologies and efficiency programs and integrates them into appropriate target market initiatives in order to expand efficiency savings opportunities.

Provides input to VEIC’s long-term strategic planning efforts and reporting requirements.

Provides organizational leadership in a collaborative spirit of teamwork to drive progress toward achieving efficiency savings and market transformation goals. Mentors staff to further team skills in strategic planning, market leadership, and other skills.

Participates in VEIC collaborative efforts to establish long-term planning goals, market transformation, and quality customer service.

May include some budget development and management responsibilities at the project level.

Other activities that may be necessary in support of VEIC’s goals and mission.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of VEIC.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or business, plus at least eight years of professional experience in a business strategy, innovation, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

Demonstrated strong leadership and experience in strategic planning, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.

Demonstrated organizational leadership skills in facilitation, goal setting, strategy development, and communications.

Excellent understanding and experience with factors influencing consumer and/or business decision-making and market response to energy efficiency opportunities.

Independent judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, collaborative team spirit, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and manage workload and multiple projects effectively given competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software and experience with database software.

Excellence in presenting and communicating new ideas and business opportunities to stakeholders.

Skilled in developing working relationships with regulators, third-party reviewers, customers, trade allies, building designers, and utility representatives. Experienced in working with industry leaders both within Vermont and nationally toward creating lasting market transformation.
