Job Summary We are searching for a Behavioral Health Commissioned Officer-- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting.

In this position, you will provide a safe and secure environment within the boundaries of the assigned position and/or post within the behavioral health unit.

The officer will assist the general public, staff, or patients in all matters of safety and security.

Responsibilities * Provides security functions in a designated patrol position and/or posts during varying hours and shifts within the behavioral health unit or designated facilities providing behavioral health services * Periodically conducts rounds of the designated areas observing for safety hazards, conduct room safety checks, and observes for escalating behaviors * Conduct shift briefings with doctors, nurses, and staff members while interacting with the patient and behavioral health technician * Perform patient safety checks at scheduled times, documents appropriately * Actively patrols the Hospital(s) behavioral health units and/or Texas Children's Community locations involving behavioral health care as assigned, observing all conditions for potential threats to the safety of patients, visitors, employees, and medical staff * Reports any hazardous conditions and suspicious activity to the supervisor and dispatch, using radio and other means of communication according to established departmental procedures * Trains staff on security awareness, security systems functionality, and CPI tactics * Monitors patient for behavioral patterns and safety concerns participates appropriately in the implementation of Aggressive Management Plans, responds appropriately to de-escalate or defuse patient from aggressive behavior * Safely operates and maintains Texas Children's Hospital owned vehicles as directed by supervisor and departmental procedures, operates, and maintains * Responds to emergency situations, if certified in Basic Life Support, may respond in the case of an emergency, and use AED and Personal Protective Equipment responds to emergency mental health calls in other areas of the hospital or other facilities for service to verbally de-deescalate patients and visitors who might be agitated or physically violent; implements CPI techniques to physically control persons when necessary * Trains for and responds to disaster situations in the hospital to include visitor management functions, emergency lockdown, active patrol, de-escalations, Behavioral Health incidents, security standbys, and other emergency job functions Qualifications * Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
