Analytics Consultant (Case Costing) - Utilization and Analytics

Permanent Full Time

The Analytics Consultant (Case Costing), reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Analytics, will work closely with other analytics experts and clinical programs to provide expertise in patient cost analytics. The incumbent will lead case costing projects and submission solutions that provide fiscal insights and responsibility for organizational leadership. This role requires strong project management and communication skills, ability to transform business requirements into technical deliverables, and perform patient-cost-analysis to promote cost transparency and viability of operational initiatives. The analytics consultant (case costing) will also assist in developing and maintaining cost monitoring platforms through cutting edge business intelligence tools. Key components of the job: database querying and costing measurement analysis; streamline and maintain patient costs reporting solutions; ad-hoc reporting; data visualization; communication of analytical insights.

What must you have?

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, finance, accounting or a related field with strong quantitative focus.

Master’s Degree preferred.

What else do you bring?

At least 3 years experience in decision support, business intelligence, data science, or relevant quantitative analysis field.

At least 2 years demonstrated experience in analytical insights communication.

At least 3 years previous experience in one or more programming/statistical markup language (R, Python, SAS, Java, C/C+/C++).

At least 3 years previous experience in SQL Data Query Language is required.

Strong data visualization acumen and demonstrated experience working with analysis (R, Python, SAS), BI and data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, Alteryx).

Effective and independent self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, data and statistical acumen, and ability to work with an integrated team of various disciplines.

Expertise in presenting business insights through analyses and visualizations.

Strong abilities in Excel pivot tables required.

Strong ability to distill complex business problems into simple analytics solutions.

Functional experience in applied statistics (hypothesis testing, linear/logistic/multivariate regression).

Familiarity or Epic certification in Epic application or reporting modalities (Cogito / Caboodle) including SAP Crystal reports would be an assist.

Experience working with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization an asset.

Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with situations where information is difficult to obtain, complex, or ambiguous.

Demonstrated independent ability to prioritize, multi-task and work to tight timelines.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.

Effectively uses empathy and respect in interactions with others.

Proven attendance record.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

2 years’ applied experience working in business cost accounting.

Basic understanding of healthcare patient flow and resource utilization.

Knowledge of healthcare costing (OCCI), clinical databases (e.g., DAD, NACRS, CCRS, NRS, OMHRS, CCIS, WTIS, ERNI, etc.) and case mix systems (e.g., RUG/RWPD, RCG/RCW, SCIPP/SWPD, etc.) an asset.

Experience with funding models (HBAM, MOH QBPs, CCO QBPs) an asset.

Knowledge of MOH, CCO/ ORS and CIHI data submission and reporting tools an asset.

Knowledge and understanding of key health care performance measures (clinical, financial, utilization, efficiency) an asset.

Experience within a consulting role would be a strong asset.

Experience in statistical modelling and simulations.
