360 kids’ Adult Gang Intervention Team are focused on working with young adults aged 12-18 who are at-risk or involved in gang activity or criminogenic behaviour. As part of the Outreach Team, the Adult Gang Intervention Worker would assist young adults to access services that can be of support to any aspect of their lives; make presentations to young adults; facilitate workshops; individual case management; engagement in 360 kids existing wraparound support services and mentorship opportunities. The Adult Gang Intervention Worker will be predominantly deployed in targeted areas across the Region of York.

Specific accountabilities include:

Provide youth with resources, informal counselling, referrals to wraparound services, and advocacy services within their community.

Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with youth to assess needs, set goals, and begin movement towards minimizing crisis and increasing stability.

Provide case management support and informal counselling to program participants in order to assist them in meeting their goals.

Provide ongoing group work in in the following areas but are not limited to these for young adults: anger management, parenting skills, drug and alcohol addictions education, community education, conflict resolution skills, employment and job skills training.

Encourage youth engagement with community services by making referrals and reducing barriers to accessing outside supports and services, by accompanying them to agencies, and helping them access information about services.

Identify and make appropriate referrals for service and supports to outside agencies related to mental health, addictions, medical, financial, legal, housing, education, employment, etc.

Respond to phone inquiries from youth; as well as inquiries and referrals from the community.

Meet with youth one to one to assess their needs and focus on goal setting and movement towards minimizing gang involvement and increasing stability.

Deliver group presentations and build public awareness regarding 360 kids’ services or special interest topics for youth, school professionals, community groups or agencies.

Facilitate community collaboration with key partners and build capacity for partnerships with populations such as LGBTQIA+, mental health, addictions, diversity councils, faith-based assemblies, education bodies, justice panels, police, and community committees.

Report on a regular basis to Team Leader regarding issues of need and/or concern. In the event of a crisis or critical incident, immediately reports to appropriate level.

With the Team Lead and Manager supports, create and implement approved strategies and plans that will result in the achievement of the program’s goals and objectives.

Follow appropriate policies and procedures of 360 kids. Ensures that the program operates in line with 360 kids’ mission, vision and values and activities comply with applicable standards and laws.

Participate in regular supervision meetings and performance appraisal meetings on a semiannual basis.

Attend training workshops and relevant conferences that pertain to the role.

QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:

Post-Secondary degree/diploma Child/youth related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.

Minimum of three years’ experience working with “at-risk” or street involved young adults.

Demonstrated client focused informal counselling skills and experience addressing the needs of young adults who have gang involvement or criminogenic behavior including making referrals to community agencies.

Experience working from a trauma informed lens.

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be adaptable and flexible and take into consideration the unique qualities of each client.

Strong relationship building skills to develop rapport with managers, peers, and clients.

Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to appropriately assess and respond to situations based on available information and past experience.

Established case management skills including record keeping and capacity building in a strength-based, client centered model of care.

Effectively works as at team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.

Strong communication skills both oral and written including MS Office experience in preparing and maintaining reports within a timely manner.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. Current First Aid/CPR Certification.

Current Vulnerable Sector Screening (criminal background check)and Valid driver’s license with liability insurance coverage at $2M.
