Description:

Overview:

Software development to display electron temperature (Te) and electron density (ne), measured by the Thomson Scattering diagnostic, to follow shot performance in real time.

Justification: Use the new capabilities of the real time Thomson system and display shot performances during NSTX-U operation.

A proud U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory managed by Princeton University, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) is a longstanding leader in the science and innovation behind the development of fusion energy — a clean, safe, and virtually limitless energy source. With an eye on the future and in response to national priorities, PPPL also has begun a strategic shift from a singular focus on fusion energy to a multi-focus approach that includes microelectronics, quantum information science, and sustainability science. Whether it be through science, engineering, technology or professional services, every team member has an opportunity to make their mark on our world. PPPL aims to attract and support people with a rich variety of backgrounds, interests, experiences, and cultural viewpoints. We are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility and believe that each member of our team contributes to our scientific mission in their own unique way. Come join us!

Responsibilities:

Core Duties

The work would be to work on researching and implementing software to visualize the real time output.

For example to have a large screen in the control room that would display the temperature and density in real time as it comes off the server.

This serves two purposes to show shot performance in real time.

This would use Python QT or C#.

Also, in the area of instrumentation there is a need for a way to create a signal on the fiber bragg strain sensors and then verify that the data is going to the proper locations in MDS+. This effort would involve using an embedded system like a

Raspberry Pi and C code.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Ideal candidate will have strong understanding of programming language and experience in problem-solving and program creation in C, C++ and Python.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Programming languages C, C++ and Python, Stack-based Data Sorting Program

Working Conditions

Charge code: Collaborator Diagnostic rt-MPTS (phone number removed)
