$93,000 - $98,000 Based on Experience, plus bonus potential up to 15%.

The Safety Director is responsible for ensuring that the highest level of safety and security standards are maintained at all times to protect the residents, employees, and visitors, as well as the assets of our Community. They interact with various departments ensuring general safety practices are being adhered to. Extensive resident and employee interaction is also required, as it pertains to routine issues as well as sensitive situations. The Safety Director has direct oversight of the Safety Department which is responsible for emergency response, life safety, OSHA and workplace training, disaster preparedness, investigations such as Workers’ Compensation claims, theft, etc.

Principle Duties:

Management

Coordinates the daily operation of the Safety Department.

Maintains records of all Community Incident Reports and Daily Officer Logs. Maintains records of liability matters and litigated matters associated with Workers’ Compensation and general liability.

Responsible for reviewing, analyzing and compiling loss runs and frequency/severity reports for Workers’ Compensation.

Responsible for accident investigations for all Workers’ Compensation claims and “near miss” accidents in the community. Responsible for conducting root cause analysis for all accidents, in an effort to prevent future occurrences.

Responsible for proactively finding ways to mitigate multidisciplinary risk, by actively conducting community and department risk assessments.

Responsible for reviewing, processing and approving payroll.

Maintains the labor and operational budgets for the Safety Department. Responsible for reviewing monthly operating statements and completing variance reports.

Serves as a liaison for the community with either law enforcement or the OC Sheriff’s Department, OC Fire Authority and other governmental agencies.

First responder to all emergencies on property; including Resident medical emergencies, fire alarms and large scale incidents.

Responsible for the daily monitoring and maintenance of the resident pendant system, Resident door monitoring, emergency pendant alerts, smoke alarms, fire alarm system, sprinkler system, camera system and access control system.

Provides ongoing life safety training program to employees across the community; including CPR, First Aid, AED and other classes as needed.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Human Resources

Selects, trains, evaluates, and coaches Safety staff.

Responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels in the Safety Department.

Regulatory

Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual testing of the fire alarm and sprinkler system.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA rules and regulations. Responsible for the ongoing training of all staff on a variety of safety and OSHA related topics.

Leadership

Provides ongoing education to Residents covering a variety of topics.

Actively participates on the safety, emergency preparedness, quality improvement/assurance and other Community committees.

Responsible for parking systems management for both Residents and staff.

Responsible for 24 hour Community patrols to monitor security and safety of Community. Patrol Community and utilize tracking and monitoring system.

CRITICAL FUNCTION:

This position is essential to the safety of our residents and staff; and to the operation and function of the community. Employee may be recalled to report to work for an emergency, unusual occurrence, resident care need, visit from regulatory/governing agencies or any other event deemed necessary by the Executive Director, Administrator, and designee.

What You Will Bring:

Five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

At least two years of management experience supervising others is required.

EMT or Paramedic certified; or a RN or LVN licensed by the State of California

CPR/AED certified.

Experience in a long-term care, hospital or other health care setting.

Disaster preparedness experience is highly desirable

CPR/AED, First Aid Instructor preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Light to moderate physical effort up to 90% of the work day. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting. Must be able to transport Residents via wheelchair, pushing up to generally 200 lbs. Able to occasionally lift, carry and balance generally up to 125 lbs. (250 lbs. with assistance). Occasionally push and/or pull wheeled carts and equipment generally weighing up to 200 lbs. May be exposed to communicable diseases including HIV and Hepatitis B viruses; industrial and household chemicals; offensive odors; and combative behavior.
