Help us create a better future, quicker

During RIIO-ED2, SP Energy Networks are relying more than ever on new and innovative alternatives to traditional network solutions – this means we must think creatively about how we can use commercial solutions to solve network challenges, as well as innovative technical solutions, and about new ways to set up and manage our commercial and contractual relationships.

We will be contracting with customers to adjust their demand and generation flexibly within network design limits; we will be working hand-in-hand with local authorities and government to optimise energy and electricity infrastructure alongside local community planning; and we will be applying new affordable connection charging regimes to enable societies transition to Net Zero at least cost. And we must do all of this whilst protecting SPENs customers’ and shareholders’ interests – with sharp commercial acuity and a thorough understanding of the risks and opportunities of entering new and novel commercial arrangements.

You will be at the centre of this journey, leading and shaping our new strategies, policies and processes, systems and people to ensure we succeed on behalf of our customers and shareholders.

What you’ll be doing

You will be joining our Whole System Strategy & Optimisation team that identifies and implements new commercial solutions, manages key projects and regulatory mechanisms, and innovates to deliver better Whole System outcomes for customers and stakeholders.

As part of this team, you will:

Identify new opportunities to deliver value through innovative Whole System solutions, driving continuous change and monitoring Whole System governance. You will also be responsible for some key Whole System projects and Licence deliverables.

Lead on the implementation of key regulatory incentives for RIIO-ED2 providing project management and delivery support across SP Energy Networks.

Provide senior support on embedding Whole System thinking across SP Energy Networks – including building the culture, systems, policies and processes.

Work closely with our Strategic Optimisers who support Local Authorities with the development of LAEPs or LHEES.

Development and review of commercial, policy and technical solutions to meet Licence obligations, business requirements and that represent a benefit for our customers, wider society, and our shareholders. Leading on specific initiatives where appropriate.

Provide industry direction through industry Working Groups / Forums to influence the direction of key developments in the sector and ensure these are aligned with SPEN business objectives.

Accountability for the delivery of reporting requirements, generation of reports and maintenance of key registers and the implementation of supporting governance arrangements.

Support the roll-out of industry change to SPEN business units ensuring best practise is adopted and implemented. Support major business changes across internal technical policy, and commercial policy; accurately reflecting changes as set by industry code and charging/code/licence updates.

What you’ll bring

Project Management experience, with the ability to manage and deliver multiple projects and programmes of work.

Experience of transmission and / or distribution network planning, project delivery and an appreciation of contract management commercial practises.

Legal experience of contractual agreements, definitions, and liabilities.

Knowledge of the regulatory and legislative landscape, including code, licences, standards and incentives e.g. ED2 DSO Incentive

High level business planning, financial awareness, and strategic thinking.

Effective at leading and managing change and creating a culture of engagement and positivity.

Experience of managing, training and developing staff;

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the abilities to influence and persuade effectively.
