Job Summary:

The Quality Control Supervisor, under general supervision from the Quality Manager, is responsible for: (1) the day-to-day operation of the QC Lab ; (2) ensuring that testing of all raw materials and products is performed in a timely fashion to meet production, demand, and sales needs; (3) utilizing technical knowledge, experience, and common sense in the modification of existing procedures and design of new procedures in tandem with R&D; (4)coordinating in process testing with production; (5) coordinating work between in-house resources and contractors; (6) preparing material and product specifications in tandem with R&D and QA; (7) maintaining a department level budget and implementing green light savings.

Location: Lafayette, LA

Pay range: $28/hr - $33/hr

Responsibilities

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the QC Lab.

Promoting departmental quality achievement and performance improvement.

Effectively interact with multiple departments to maintain workflow.

Ability to make decisions and take responsibility for outcomes.

Report out deviations, out of specification results, and issues to the appropriate mid-level management in a timely fashion.

Act as a representative of Quality Control for customer and agency audits.

Act as a backfill for the Quality Manager in the Quality Manager absence.

Formulate and manage the development and implementation of goals, policies, objectives, and procedures relative to QC.

Coordinate and ensure proper in process testing outside of normal working hours.

Monitor, develop and mentor personnel performance and document results via HPWS.

Monitoring and maintaining annual budget while implementing cost-savings measures. Track and maintain expenses and Quality Control department budget monthly, reporting out weekly and projecting upcoming costs. Ensures accruals are submitted to accounting.

Perform root cause analysis when applicable and complete necessary corrective actions and documentation.

Monitor, measure, and report necessary monthly KPI’s to management group.

Ensuring tests and procedures are properly understood and executed as well as conducting detailed investigations if necessary.

Works with Regulatory and Quality Assurance to ensure regulatory and cGMP compliance.

Assists R&D and Process Engineer in design and implements experiments, trials, and pilot-scale studies to evaluate new materials, formulations, and process improvements.

Works with research and technology groups on projects to lower cost and improve quality as well as evaluate efficacy of new products.

Maintains the annual secondary standard and USP testing programs.

Maintains the monthly stability program.

Mentors and coaches’ quality control personnel on MTI Operational Excellence philosophy and tools

Reviews and tracks all monthly standard work audits.

Creates and revises visual standard work as needed and ensures all visual standard work procedures and SOPs are current.

Acts as resource and champion for Quality Control department’s continuous improvement activities (Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, problem solving, etc.).

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other Life/Physical Science discipline.

Experience: · 5 + years of experience in a laboratory setting

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:

3 + years of experience in cGMP or GMP manufacturing environments.

1 + years of supervisory experience

Excellent written and verbal skills

MS Office Suite knowledge

Experience with Oracle a plus

Comprehensive knowledge of cGMP, FDA Quality System regulations, and GMP

Incumbent must be a self-starter who seeks responsibility and is able to work with minimal direction. Must be proficient in personal computers, including spreadsheet, database and word processing software. Incumbent must possess excellent organizational and written and oral communication and presentation skills, the ability to motivate others and to promote a positive work atmosphere. Must have strong facilitation skills and leadership potential.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, and using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, copier and phone. Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, written letters and/or faxes. On a frequent basis, there will be exposure to plant production areas, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes. The employee must be aware of oneself in relation to surrounding equipment, work independently and as a team with others, and use, monitor and adjust equipment and related processes. Ability to lift materials weighing up to and including 50 pounds. Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others effectively is required. Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment. Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze information/situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary. Incumbent will frequently work in a laboratory setting and is expected to conduct themselves appropriately while maintaining the safety of themselves and others around them.

Travel: Travel is not expected for this position.

Work Hours: Must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished.

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system. Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by government regulations.
