Iridium is seeking a motivated Senior Software/Systems Engineer to join our Strategic Government Programs Systems Engineering Team. As a Senior Software/Systems Engineer, you will participate in system requirements analysis, decomposition and management, functional and performance analysis, system design, system integration, verification, and validation, as well as troubleshooting of network systems, providing significant value to the team. What You’ll Do:
Apply system engineering best practices and processes to ground and payload controller development for various projects
Work independently to perform requirements analysis, definition, decomposition, and management
Collaborate with Project Systems Engineers in exercising technical authority over projects
Independently conduct required system analysis (functional & performance), interface definition, concept of operations and detailed trade studies
Participate in providing input for major reviews such as: Systems Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test Readiness Review (TRR), and Operations Readiness Review (ORR) and Program Increment Demonstrations
Be accountable for performing analysis that ensures system designs meet technical performance targets
Participate in Modeling and Simulation of new services
Play a key role in planning and executing acceptance testing of existing and new projects
Build relationships with stakeholders to understand their technical needs to manage the requirements and planning of the assigned projects
Identify and autonomously implement ideas, solutions, processes, procedures throughout the design and development of existing and new systems
Maintain existing operational tool suite and develop new operational software tools and scripts of medium to high complexity, focusing on streamlined automated and mechanized satellite ground operations
Investigate and resolve issues where situations require an in-depth evaluation of factors that have been discovered or referred by stakeholders
Support cross-functional efforts and special projects with small team sizes spanning multiple Iridium groups with minimal external interfaces

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace/Software/Systems Engineering or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
8+ years of related software/system engineering experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications, ground networks, electronic products development/manufacturing, or satellites; OR an equivalent combination of work experience in satellite operations and/or software development
Proficiency in a LINUX operating system, as well as standard PC usage and applications
Proficiency in Programming languages such as C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell scripting
Basic understanding of how to track, trend and analyze potential problems & anomalous conditions that may affect the ground system, hardware, software, operational LANs (Local Area Networks), and satellites
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met
Be self-aware enough to identify and correct your mistakes, and not be afraid to ask for help when needed
Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
Experience in developing software tools and applications
Working knowledge of networking protocols, routers, switches, etc.
Familiarity with Tool Suite such as R4J, Jira and Confluence
Strong knowledge of system engineering methodologies
A good understanding of tools and software applications that support system engineering best practices
Working knowledge of satellite or ground operations, background in troubleshooting and problem solving, and working under tight time constraints
Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or science
We’ll also need you to:
Be able to travel up to 10%
Be able to work in the office at least 3 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders
Be a US Citizen with no dual citizenships
Work Environment:
This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
