Job Description:

Summary:

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) is seeking an undergraduate student to provide support for CDI’s Graphic Design and Social Media initiatives.

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion is looking for a collaborative team player interested in enhancing the experience of all students, understanding the campus climate, and partnering intentionally with campus partners and administrative offices to tell to cultivate and create spaces that allows students to engage with one another through dialogue in a meaningful and community driven manner.

Required Education & Experience:

The Graphic & Social Media Undergraduate Assistant must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate program at American University.

Additionally, they must acknowledge and understand multi-layered topics of identity, including ability, race, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc.

Essential Functions:

Posting content on social media.

Designing graphic material.

Creating visuals for social media posts.

Designing logos and other visuals that represent the brand.

Staying up to date with current trends in social media and graphic design.

Creating internal and external media graphic materials for social media and outreach efforts.

Developing new design concepts, graphics, and layouts.

Provide administrative support to produce the CDI Newsletter.

Research, benchmark, and assess CDI and other campuses’ educational, support programs, & media efforts.

Other duties as assigned with general office tasks.

Qualifications:

Strong organization skills to effectively manage multiple priorities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to inclusive language.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Familiarity with software/tools like, Canva, Google Analytics, Microsoft Word, AdWords.

Strong dialogue skills with ability to navigate difficult conversations about social issues & identity.

Knowledgeable of multi-layered aspects of identity, including ability, race, religious belief and practice, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, racial identity, and ethnicity.

Works well with other students, staff, and faculty on collaborative projects.

Ability to provide program recommendations based on students’ needs.

Familiarity with videography (i.e. Canon Camera, Apple Products) as well as editing software; Adobe, Final Cut, iPhone/iPad, Canva, PPT.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is an in-person (non-hybrid) position that can work up to 10 hours (a week).

Salary Range:

$17.50/hour

Required Education and Experience:

Open to all undergraduate students with Federal Work Study preferred.

Students must be enrolled in an American University degree program for the 2024-2025 academic year. As a note, there are no tuition benefits available for this position.
