Butler - Upper East Side

Overview

A wonderful family of six is seeking a top-notch, emotionally intelligent, and hardworking butler (male or female) to join their team. The family (two adults, two teenagers, two young children, and two dogs) is based on the Upper East Side of Manhattan but spends Fall and Spring weekends at their Connecticut home. Shifts are typically 7am-2pm, 2pm-9pm, or 7am- 9pm, with +30min-1hr start/end time flexibility) and each butler will have 2 days off each week and 40 guaranteed hours per week. There may be weeks (especially when doing the CT shift) that hours exceed 40, but other weeks won't. The family travels internationally for a few weeks during Summer and Winter, but the butlers will most typically stay home and not be required to work (with 40 hours still guaranteed). The butler will fill many shoes throughout the workday; however, your predominant focus is service to the principal madame as she works from home most days. Butlers are the glue of this household and do much of the necessary communication between the family and each department.

Responsibilities

Service (including things like beverage service (making and delivering coffee, tea, matcha, wine, etc) but also for family-style meals each evening.

Personal assisting, cleaning/ organizing, documentation,

Communication between the principals and the other staff and/or between groups of staff

Butlers will also set the table for all meals, serve the food family style, wash family dishes, print documents, escort vendors, stock items, take inventory, open packages, feed the dogs, prepare dogs for their dog walker, accept deliveries, run small errands, and complete general helpful tasks.

Knowledge of beverage service (coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, etc.)

Requirements

An excellent understanding of the English language, both verbal and written.

Schedule flexibility as the shift is not set in stone

Valid Driver’s License for the CT commute, the staff golf cart, and to run errands while away from NYC property

Flexibility for travel - During the Fall and Spring, one on-duty butler will travel to the CT property Friday morning through Sunday afternoon (two overnights Friday and Saturday nights)

International travel may be required up to 2x per year but is not a guaranteed necessity. Butlers typically accompany the family to a trip for 3 weeks in the month of July. There may also be a need to do this over the Thanksgiving holiday.

All other family travel does not require a butler. The family is typically away over the Christmas holiday, part of June, part of July, and part of August. When the family is away, staff are not always required to work and will receive the full 40 hours of pay.
