Welding Supervisor

We would prefer to hire someone on contract and convert into a permanent job after few months but will consider direct hire from the start.

The Welding Supervisor is primarily responsible for overseeing and leading a team of direct labor associates in the manufacture and assembly of products, components and parts for custom equipment & structural items. The Supervisor is accountable for meeting production schedules, cost targets and quality standards. This position has great emphasis on highly skilled processes, complex assemblies and testing. The Supervisor must possess a high level of technical skill to assist operators in troubleshooting and problem resolution. The Supervisor must also lead the team in safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsible for daily assignments of hourly production personnel in order to meet schedule commitments and cycle time requirements. Prioritizes and manages the workflow within the department to ensure timely and efficient task completion in accordance with the production schedule.

Accountable for ensuring all quality & regulatory requirements are met. Responsible to make sure appropriate actions are taken to meet all requirements, including stopping production if appropriate.

Review all work within the department to assure technical accuracy of the work meets customer requirements, engineering design expectations as documented in shop orders, engineering prints, bills of material, work instructions and quality documentation. Assure all workmanship standards are met.

Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma. Associate or Bachelors degree preferred.

Minimum 5 years work related experience, 2 years in Supervisory or Leadership capacity.

10 + years production welding experience performing steel welding.

Experience with weld and structural repairs to ASME Sect VIII, Div 1

Must have an understanding in cause & effect of defective welds and implementation of corrective measures

Experience in maintaining and performing minor repair of welding equipment.

Working skill / knowledge of Welding â this is a hands-on position.

Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine need for supplies and sequence of operations required

Detailed knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes.

Thorough understanding and application of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with demonstrated team building and conflict resolution ability. Excellent employee and human relations skills.

Excellent computer skills. Ability to learn and use company specific systems.

Knowledge and experience with regulatory agency requirements such as NFPA, ASME [U] and [R] codes

Organizing and planning work schedules

Work order analysis & blueprint analysis to determine need for supplies and sequence of operations required

Blue Print Reading& understanding assembly of sub components & building fixtures

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Two year degree, apprentice or secondary training in Weld Technology/Inspection Technology.

AWS certified welder in several processes, GMAW or TIG or SAW or SMAW

AWS ACWI, CWI, CWE certificates

Experience in none ferrous metal welding and thermal cutting process.

Understand the structural dynamics with welding, stresses, distortional causes, cause and effect with thermal stresses.
