Position: Special Events Volunteer, Ohio History Center & Ohio Village
Type: Volunteer
Schedule: Part-time, unpaid 3+-hour shifts. Saturday and Sunday work may be required for programming.
Location: Ohio History Center & Ohio Village in Columbus, OH
Reports to: Special Event Manager (will vary depending on the event)
Summary:
The Special Events Volunteer provides a welcoming environment to all guests. They sign up for one or more 3-4-hour shifts during the event and help with a variety of tasks.
Special Event Opportunities:
Greet and welcome visitors
Lead craft activities
Wear period clothing or costumes to provide atmosphere to the events
Ensure tour and program materials are properly handled and maintained.
Assist with the set-up and take-down of program materials.
Required Competencies:
Represent the site in a professional and courteous manner to members of the visiting public
Interact with program participants and visitors in a positive and engaging manner
Comfortable speaking in front of groups.
Desire to learn about history and share their knowledge.
Reliable and punctual.
Flexibility, enthusiasm, and an attitude of respect for working with diverse staff and visitors.
Physically able to stand or sit for a long period of time
Required Paperwork and Tasks:
If volunteering for only one day ONLY:
Must complete the waiver of liability/ photo release
Must sign in and log hours on the event sign in sheet
If volunteering more than one day:
Must complete a background check
Must complete the waiver of liability/ photo release
Must complete an emergency contact form
Must sign up for shifts via Track It Forward
Must log volunteer hours via Track It Forward
Must attend training sessions for the event
