General Summary:
The Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Specialist is responsible for contributing to the effective performance of the team. The role is based at the Oxford Research site, Milton Park, Abingdon and is primarily focused on providing support to the EHSS team who are responsible for the Oxford Research site.
This is a varied role which requires excellent communication, organizational and administration skills. The Specialist is an effective organizer, has an eye for detail and can manage multiple tasks. Travel within the UK may be required from time to time.
The ideal candidate has an interest in health and safety management with some previous experience in a health and safety related role or experience from a facilities management, training, or document management role.
The ideal candidate will be interested in further developing their qualifications and knowledge of EHSS topics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration of the EHSS document management system, Maintain shared email inbox and calendar
Maintains databases and filing electronic / hard copy records
Assists in filing and posting applicable regulatory permits and licenses
Coordinates meetings and takes meeting minutes
May generate metrics for site specific programs
Arrange EHSS training with internal and external providers
Arrange and manage appointments for Occupational Health & face-fit testing
Participates in the development and/or implementation of department policies, SOPs and training materials
Contribute to EHSS team projects and initiatives
Knowledge and Skills:
Possesses knowledge of UK environmental, health and safety regulations and sustainability best practices
Displays attention to detail with documentation and communications
Deals with sensitive and confidential information appropriately e.g. accident/health records
Demonstrates communication, verbal and written and interpersonal skills to exchange straightforward information
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint)
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, life sciences or safety related (e.g. industrial hygiene) discipline
Typically requires 1 year of experience or the equivalent combination or education and experience
A Health & Safety or an Environmental qualification is desirable (e.g. NEBOSH certificate, IEMA certificate)
