SCOPE:

As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating incoming business applications, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with established underwriting guidelines. Your role will involve reviewing motor vehicle reports, claims reports, and other underwriting documents to confirm accuracy and mitigate potential risks. Additionally, you will review discounts applied during the sales process, take underwriting actions such as pricing adjustments, and manage underwriting suspense for additional information as needed. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to make informed decisions to protect the company's interests while providing exceptional service to our clients. This position offers a remote work arrangement, allowing the ideal candidate to work from their preferred location within the Southeast region.

DUTIES:

Review incoming business applications and supporting documentation.

Assess the risk associated with each application based on underwriting guidelines.

Ensure accuracy and completeness of information provided.

Identify potential risks associated with new policies.

Determine appropriate underwriting actions to mitigate risks.

Analyze data from motor vehicle reports, claims reports, and other sources to assess risk levels accurately.

Ensure that all underwriting decisions and actions comply with established guidelines and regulations.

Verify that information from reports is properly reflected in the acceptance or rejection of a risk.

Review discounts applied during the point-of-sale process.

Approve or remove discounts based on documentation submitted to support the discount.

Ensure that discounts are applied accurately and in accordance with company policies.

Take underwriting actions such as “uprating” or discounting pricing on new discoveries.

Set up policies for underwriting cancellation when necessary, following company procedures.

Create and send underwriting suspense requests for additional information when matters are unclear or fall into a gray area.

Follow up on suspense items to ensure timely resolution and mitigate potential risks.

Ensure that applicable rejections and exclusions are properly executed in accordance with underwriting guidelines.

Communicate decisions to relevant stakeholders and provide rationale as needed.

Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, actions, and communications.

Generate reports as required to track underwriting activities and outcomes.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

440/220 Insurance License is a plus.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years of experience working within the insurance industry; experience in automobile Insurance is a plus.

Strong computer proficiency with the ability to work with various platforms simultaneously.

Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
