Job Description

OBJECTIVE:

Under the direction of the Fleet Superintendent and the Public Works Superintendent, performs vehicle repairs and maintenance for all Township automobile fleet and related equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist garage automotive mechanics in performing minor repair work and mechanical adjustments to Township vehicles, and automotive mechanical equipment.

Dismantle parts to gain access to repair site.

Install new parts and equipment; work on light and heavy duty trucks and equipment.

Replace hoses; adjust clutches; tighten belts; tune-ups; install brake shoes and calibration; replace ball joints and tie rod ends; dispense motor fuel and oil; change motor oil, filter and lubricant; mount and dismount tires and repair.

Maintain oil and lubrication service records, repair work records, and vehicle service records.

Perform minor electrical repair work, including alternators and wiring, electric windows, and changing of fuses, lamps, bulbs and headlights.

Perform emergency road service; road test vehicles, change truck and car tires as needed.

Check motorized equipment, including, but not limited to, spreaders and water pumps.

Check battery voltage.

Repair and remove snow chains.

Operate air and power hydraulic lift, hydraulic hoses, hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and related repairs.

Drive vehicle to parts supplier to obtain replacement parts.

Clean vehicles, motors, and garage area.

Perform light welding.

Perform PA State Inspections.

Perform inventory control of parts and supplies in garage.

Attend automotive training classes as required to upgrade and maintain skills.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFCATIONS:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Minimum of three (3) years of solid job related experience

Valid PA Drivers License, CDL Class B preferred. Must obtain within 6 months of hire.

Ability to read, interpret, understand automotive instructional repair manuals

Ability to write in a legible manner

Must be able to carry-out verbal and written instructions

Ability to communicate effectively

Must be detailed and deadline oriented

Ability to work independent of direct supervision

Good oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills

PA State Inspection Certification

Diesel Engine Experience a plus

Ability to interact and work well with others

Able to supply own automotive mechanic tools, Township has a tool reimbursement policy.

Must obtain Emissions Certification within 1 year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Constructed work days and hours: Monday - Friday; 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Non-constructed work days and hours: as needed.

Ability to safely operate organization equipment; understand and comply with safety

procedures and policies

Adhere to rules and regulations for retention of required certificates, licenses, registrations or the likes-there-of

Ability to sit, walk, stand, crawl, climb, crouch, balance, bend, kneel, stoop; carry, lift, push and pull up to 60 lbs.; recline; reach at all levels; climb ladders; and perform fine manipulation; and access and maneuver in a confined space,

Able to operate safely a motor vehicle

Able to withstand exposure to various weather, including temperatures of up to 100 F and humidity; unprotected heights; work with moving equipment; exposed to uneven, slippery and hot surface; metal burning fumes; high noise levels; dusty conditions; exhaust fumes; oil and fuel odors; exposure to road salt

Handle various truck and automotive tools and parts

Possess acute hearing and eyesight, correctable to 20/20 vision

Adhere to Township Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy

Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
