Penn-Mar Castings LLC is looking for a foundry and design engineer for our iron foundry operations.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Foundry Engineer is responsible for the design of new tooling, improvement to existing tooling, development and maintenance of manufacturing processes and documentation, and providing engineering support to other operations to produce quality castings. He/she will work directly with other engineers, quality, pattern shop, and production personnel to analyze and correct problems, resolve tooling design issues, and drive continuous improvement.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and revise gating/risering and tooling layout in response to customer and process requirements with focus on standardization whenever possible.

Troubleshoot casting defects identified by quality, engineering, and/or production.

Demand, leverage, provide, and validate with data in any decision-making process.

Leverage all technology available to communicate effectively.

Use problem solving tools including 5 Why, Fishbone, A3, 8D and Kata.

Participate in developing accurate job cost estimates for tooling and castings.

Create and maintain accurate Foundry Operations routings, bills of material, general and part/equipment specific standard work.

Facilitate the new job start-up process and the quality / productivity improvement process by observing and advising as each sample/R&D/process check job moves through the Foundry Ops

Assist in resolving customer dimensional, machining and form/fit problems (tool/equipment related issues), whether caused by the company or by customer operations

Develop, facilitate, and participate in process, product, and continuous improvement projects across the integrated business; work to ensure the sustainability of project results.

Maintain awareness of improved and competitive technologies to enhance the company’s competitiveness in the market.

Continuously seek out, identify, and communicate process changes that would improve productivity, quality, cost, health, safety, and environmental performance

Perform other duties and manage special projects as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering;

Supervisor Certificate and/or an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Industrial Arts, etc. will require more experience.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years in casting / tooling engineering for an iron foundry.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

Advanced understanding of and experience using gating/risering/chilling principles

Experience using CAD and simulation programs, preferably SolidWorks and Magma.

Deep understanding of foundry processes, tooling design, and operations best practices

Advanced blueprint reading and interpretation skills

Communicates effectively with others.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Foundry Engineer will spend approximately 50% of time in the office and 50% on the foundry floor. Is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, handle, touch, feel product. He/she is often required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Will frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Close, distant, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception are used routinely.

The Foundry Engineer is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, loud noises, heat in summer, and cold in winter. Hardhat, safety glasses with brow and side-shields, safety shoes, hearing protection, respirator and gloves are worn as needed.

Salary: $65,000-$90,000 Annually Dependent on experience
