Midwood Smokehouse is seeking a dedicated and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of culinary excellence, managing kitchen operations, and delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests.

We love all styles of barbecue and our menu shows it, we have everything covered from North Carolina hog to Texas beef. Our newest obsession is Tex-Mex barbecue, so being willing to learn about new methods and flavors is a must.

Sous Chef Responsibilities:

Culinary Excellence: Assist the Executive Chef in overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation, to ensure the highest quality of food is consistently delivered to guests.

Pit Smoker Operations: Mentor and execute all production of proteins from our Pit smoker, including maintaining the fire during restaurant hours to ensure consistent and authentic barbecue flavors.

Training and Development: Train, mentor, and inspire kitchen staff to uphold culinary standards, execute recipes with precision, and adhere to food safety and sanitation protocols.

Inventory Management: Assist in managing food inventory, ordering supplies, and controlling food costs to maximize profitability while minimizing waste.

Kitchen Leadership: Lead by example, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, and maintaining open communication with kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Adherence to Standards: Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Sous Chef Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of culinary experience in a high-volume restaurant environment, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.

Strong culinary skills and a passion for Southern barbecue cuisine.

Experience with Pit smoker operations and maintaining fire during restaurant hours.

Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Culinary degree or certification is preferred but not required.
