Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Capital Planning to join our world-class team.

The Senior Specialist, Capital Planning is responsible for offering various support services to the Engineering, Operations, Finance and Commercial departments; such as capital management, project planning, long term plan development, and asset integration.

The position also maintains Capital Power’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) compliance with APEGA and EGBC, including administering the EIT mentoring program.

You will contribute to our team by: Managing the Sustaining Capital and O&M Projects long term plan.

Developing the annual sustaining capital budget submission.

Providing regular capex forecast updates; providing variance analysis and explanations as required.

Monitoring and evaluating monthly performance indicators for the engineering department.

Managing department G&A budget.

Evaluating the value of a request for a sustaining capital project, reviewing the proposed rationale and justification.

Applying capitalization and investment policies to classify projects as capital or O&M.

Managing a small team of project controls professionals, including team resourcing, recruitment, retention, and development.

Continuously improving the quality and efficient delivery of capital planning services.

Reviewing, understanding, applying, and developing internal engineering guidelines, procedures and standards.

Optimizing asset integration capital planning process and delivery.

Contributing to organizational change initiatives where appropriate through front end input and post implementation support.

Developing, coordinating, and implementing a strategic plan for integrating newly acquired or constructed assets into our capital strategy.

Ensuring compliance with PPMP guidelines and aligning internal engineering and project management practices with jurisdictional engineering professional practice requirements.

Assisting in the development and interpretation of engineering related HSE standards and procedures.

Administering the engineer-in-training program.

Fostering strong collaborative relationships with teams from Operations, Finance, and Commercial to successfully implement the capital plan.

What you will bring to the role: Education: Completed diploma or bachelor’s degree in engineering or business.

Education equivalency may be considered with significant relevant experience.

Experience and Technical Skills: 10+ years in heavy industry with capital planning and management experience.

Ability to manage projects and work effectively in a cross-functional team.

Solid understanding of business and financial concepts.

Excellent organizational and people management skills.

Strong communication skills (written, spoken). Plant/field experience and a professional engineering designation is considered an asset.

Working Conditions: Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
