Job Description

Bright Minds Inc. is a licensed HIT (High-Impact Tutoring) provider through OSSE, working with high-priority DC schools. We are a franchise of the Huntington Learning Center, one of the largest tutoring companies in the country, and we have shown great results over the last school year. We have developed a strong partnership with Friendship SE Middle and Elementary Schools in SE Washington DC, where we provide reading and math tutoring to students in 4th-8th grade. We are excited to be moving into the summer school master schedule at Friendship SE starting this June 24th. This summer and next school year, we are in need of part-time teachers available to work at Friendship SE Elementary and Middle Schools (645 Milwaukee Place SE).

Sessions will be built into the summer school schedule, which will run from 6/24/24-7/25/2024. Sessions will be in the mornings all 23 weekdays except July 4th, with the specific morning time still being worked out with school staff. We know teachers may have vacations etc planned; primary teachers will need to be available for at least 18 of the 23 days (allows for a week off)

This program is being funded by a grant to provide HIT (High Impact Tutoring) to students in an effort to recover from learning loss during the pandemic. Teachers will use proven, individualized academic programs working with students in up to a 4:1 ratio. You will work with the same small group from beginning to end of the program. The goal of the program is to help students bring their foundational academic skills in reading and math up to grade level. We work closely with the reading specialists at Friendship to identify the correct starting levels and areas of opportunity in reading comprehension for each student. This allows us to put together an individualized program for each student. Then, we adjust it regularly, based on their scores and your feedback, to make sure we get the most we can out of each session.

Teachers are expected to engage and interact with their students; we are looking for individuals in the community who see the importance of reading fluency and comprehension skills and are passionate about helping our students become better students. We know that this will make our students more confident and provide the foundation they will need to be successful in all of their classes moving forward. We have a proven, individualized academic program for every student based on an academic evaluation. There is no prep, planning or looking for curriculum. You will be paid for simply teaching the assigned program to your assigned students, each at their own pace. Teachers always have the option to adjust their availability as needed.

If you have a college degree, and are available to come work with students at Friendship SE in the mornings this summer, we have immediate openings for teachers to get trained over the next month (2 hours/paid time/online), then start working with your own group of up to 4 students as a primary teacher when summer school begins on June 24th.. You would work in a Friendship classroom with a Friendship teacher who teaches at the school.

We will also be offering sessions at 2 SOME (So Others May Eat) housing locations in SE DC this summer. We continue sessions during the school year at Friendship and SOME locations next school year. There are additional opportunities to continue teaching with us after this summer.

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in our community, and we look forward to sharing more with you about this exciting opportunity!
