Job Title: Shop Estimator

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are a fabrication company with multiple locations that specializes in Design Build. Our niche is that we offer a wide variety of engineering along with fabricated process equipment and steel structures. This has led us to see a variety of fabrication projects in the petrochemical and agribusiness, primarily in the Gulf South United States. Our projects have included process equipment, structural steel, miscellaneous steel, lifting devices, tank parts, and specialty construction equipment.

Our company is a small, young company with significant potential and is experiencing growing pains. The creation of this position is expected to solidify and strengthen the estimating department. Currently the estimating role is decentralized and shared across the management staff throughout company branches. With this new position, companywide estimating will be consolidated and is expected to become more consistent and efficient.

In general, you will be responsible for management of all estimates and development of most of the estimates. It is expected the estimating load will still be shared with others but to a lessor degree. You will be expected to develop very detailed shop fabrication estimates that include material take offs, labor take offs, schedules, and execution plans. You will be expected to develop and maintain the Estimating Program based on in-house labor factors and other in -house tools. You will be expected to have up to speed knowledge on our basic materials and their pricing schemes. You will be expected to write detailed proposals for the work you estimate. You will be expected to travel between our facilities on a regular basis to stop in tune with ongoing projects and get feedback. You will be expected to prepare and participate in Job Kick Off meetings to hand over the project to the team who will execute.

REQUIRED KNOWLDEGE & SKILLS

Successful Experience estimating Shop Fabrication in at least one of these areas: Structural Steel, Pressure Vessels, Steel Tanks, Other Steel Structures

Strong abilities using MS Excel to develop job tools

Successful experience developing schedules in Gnatt format using software such as MS Project or Primavera

Familiar with Cost Tracking methods and tools

Strong organizational skills and methods

Strong background reading various types of drawings and specifications

Significant experience in Petrochemical industry

Familiarity with shop processes such as welding, forming, cutting, machining, and lifting

Strong knowledge of material grades and product forms

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar

8 years minimum experience

Background developing detailed drawings for shop fabrication

Located in Port Allen, LA, Point Solitude Manufacturing Co. fabricates critical components for the Gulf Coast’s petrochemical, agri-business, and construction industries.

Since 2019, word of mouth and strategic partnerships have expanded our steel fabrication capabilities to process equipment, vessel support structures, personnel access structures, API tank parts, BTH-lifting devices, plate structures, and custom construction tools.

The Point Solitude team specializes in the Design Build approach for all the products we offer. We can handle all related design needs entirely in house with our engineering counterpart American Ingenuity. This makes our 32,000 square foot facility, with easy access to I-10, a great choice for sole sourcing projects.

Our shops feature 6 overhead cranes with up to 20-ton lifting capacity and CNC plasma cutting. We are situated on 7-acres offering ample room for laydown, testing, and job staging.

Our welders are qualified to meet ASME IX, AWS D14.1, AWS D1.1. codes and work closely with our design teams from the start to ensure efficiency and quality are built into the product from the start.
