Description:

Sandvik Machining Solutions (SMS) is looking for a business minded, experienced and socially confident Legal Counsel to strengthen our global Legal Support team with focus on China. A versatile position right in the center of our multinational business, where you get the chance to combine your interest in legal matters, business, and collaboration in a truly global setting, and together with an amazing team of dedicated colleagues.

SMS is a global market-leading manufacturer in the cutting tool industry, and is a business area segment within Sandvik Group. We have an exciting portfolio that holds some of the strongest brands on the market: Sandvik Coromant, Seco Tools, Walter and Dormer Pramet.

The job - empowering the business to make confident decisions

Legal Support is responsible for enabling the business to take informed and balanced decisions across all legal disciplines worldwide, by providing qualitative legal advice and proactively assessing and mitigating key risks of our business. Your primary focus and responsibility would be China. This requires accuracy, strong integrity and solid business understanding, as well as proficiency across many legal and compliance disciplines. Besides providing legal advice in relation to drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, an important part of your job is to ensure that we stay compliant with legal and regulatory requirements and applicable laws. This includes implementation of relevant policies and procedures, as well as management of legal training and legal risk management of agreements.

Joining our team means working with competent and supportive colleagues around the globe, an interesting multinational network and a feedback-friendly, flexible and collaborative team aiming to add true value to the business. With a lot of freedom to shape your work, you develop your own career path. You report directly to the Head of Legal Support in Sweden, but will also work closely with the local legal team leader in Northern Asia with long experience of the business. The location for this role is in Suzhou or Shanghai, China. Travel between our sites in China and some international travel is a natural part of the job.

Your character - an experienced and decisive team player with a strong drive to succeed

You possess a Chinese Law degree and at least five years’ work experience from a reputable business law firm or within a corporate in-house legal organization with international matters.

You pay close attention to China’s legislative and enforcement trends, have the legal experience needed to act independently and to find legally adequate solutions to various situations, as well as a keen interest to further deepen your knowledge within legal areas of particular importance.

Solid experience from independently negotiating a variety of commercial agreements (including procurement/sales/distribution, IT/technology and intellectual property) is key for this position.

Experience handling corporate documentation (including being Secretary of the Board of Directors).

Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions as well as digitalization is an asset.

As we are a global organization, you need excellent communication skills in Chinese and English, both written and verbal, while knowledge in other languages is beneficial.

We place great value on your personal qualities, characterized by your practical, analytical and decisive mindset, your strong integrity and the ability to get things done.

You’re self-motivated and take initiatives, and as a true team player, you thrive on helping us grow.

To gain trust is key in your job, and you do this by building long-term relationships and by offering advice and guidance based on legal experience, sound judgment and thorough business understanding.
