Mechanical Design Engineer

National Boiler Service is the boiler shutdown contractor of choice for the pulp & paper, chemical processing, and packaging equipment industry. We offer expert boiler system and component services, including repair, maintenance, and upgrades / new installations of all foreign and domestic recovery boilers, multi-fuel power / utility boilers, and more. At our Trenton GA facility, our fabrication shop provides all types of structural and sheet metal fabrication from stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum to various other alloys using industry standards. We are an ASME/NBIC-certified production shop.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced, and organized manufacturing design engineer to join our growing team. In this position, you will research and develop new ideas and prototypes to create and build for our company. You will create calculation reports and fabrication-level blueprints, collaborate with key suppliers, and oversee the manufacturing of prototypes and final building. You will also be responsible for improving the performance and efficiency of existing systems and products.

Responsibilities:

• Possess a high level of integrity and work ethic.

• Design new engineering products and processes.

• Develop calculation reports satisfying AISC/ASME design criteria in accordance with best industry practices.

• Draw and create blueprints and other schematics suitable for production.

• Craft models and drawings of products using CAD.

• Research new product ideas and methods.

• Estimate and establish cost parameters and budgets for design proposals.

• Present prototypes and designs to customers and project managers.

• Improve existing products and processes.

• Review and oversee the manufacturing of designs.

• Collaborate with other engineers, managers, and team members while functioning independently.

• Ensure products are user- and environment-friendly and comply with the industry’s safety standards.

• Maintain accurate records.

• Prepare documentation, such as bills of materials and purchase requisitions.

• Develop and implement creative design solutions to problems.

• Organize plans and create schedules.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, product design, industrial design, or related field; degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on structural design preferred.

• 3-5 years’ previous experience in a similar role

• Advanced design skills.

• Product-focused creative thinking.

• In-depth knowledge of industry design principles.

• Functional knowledge of metal fabrication. Experience in machining/CNC or CAM programming preferred.

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) or engineering software. Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD/Inventor preferred.

• Impeccable attention to detail.

• Excellent problem-solving skills.

• Good project management skills.

• Strong aptitude for creating detailed fabrication blueprints and instructions.

• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.

• Effective oral and written communication.
