PRIMARY PURPOSE & ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The Database Specialist reports directly to the Client Services Manager. The role is responsible for leading and completing data conversion-related projects, supporting custom client requests and advising on database best practices.

Primary responsibilities include:

Lead and complete client conversion projects in coordination with the implementation project team and target dates. This includes leading routine progress meetings with external clients.

Collaborate with external and internal technical teams regarding conversion tools and methods such as data migration file mappings and translations.

Review and evaluate description of changes to database designs and understand impact of changes.

Perform complex database analysis to identify and develop design solutions.

Present and evaluate design solutions objectively and facilitate conflict resolution.

Ensure the data architecture is scalable and maintainable.

Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues, database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication and other distributed data issues.

Using BBCS software reproduce reported issues as part of the bug investigation process.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

This position will participate with other staff members to contribute to and support the corporate goals, business plan, standard operating procedures and Corporate Quality Policy, and thus requires personal and professional integrity and work ethics. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

Self-starter and quick learner who works well independently and with internal/external teams.

Experience communicating with project stakeholders & team members about existing problems and potential solutions.

Can develop creative solutions to data mismatch scenarios.

Strong critical thinking and communication skills.

In-depth database knowledge as well as basic programming and scripting skills.

Advanced SQL knowledge as well as an understanding of database structure.

Knowledge of data modeling principles (relational, object-oriented, etc.).

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to pick up new data tools and concepts quickly.

Experience as a database programmer, ETL developer or similar position.

Preferred

Experience with data analysis and data management within healthcare clinical and/or administrative data domains.

AWS server experience.

Experience in an agile environment.

Experience with Pentaho Data Integration (Spoon, Kettle).

EDUCATION:

A BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent.
