Description:

An Analog Layout Lead is a critical role within the semiconductor design and manufacturing industry, specializing in the physical design of analog integrated circuits (ICs). This position involves overseeing the layout process of analog circuits, ensuring that they meet stringent specifications for performance, power, and area.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Management: Lead and manage a team of analog layout engineers, overseeing their work and providing guidance and mentorship. Allocate tasks based on project needs and individual strengths, and ensure timely and high-quality completion of layout designs.

Design and Layout Execution: Take charge of the physical design of complex analog circuits, including block-level and chip-level layouts. This involves detailed planning, placement, routing, and verification to meet design specifications.

Collaboration with Design Engineers: Work closely with analog design engineers to understand circuit requirements and constraints. Provide feedback on layout impacts to circuit performance and collaborate on design iterations to optimize for manufacturability and yield.

Process and Methodology Improvement: Develop and refine layout processes and methodologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and performance. Implement best practices in layout techniques, such as matching, shielding, and minimizing parasitic effects.

Technology and Tool Proficiency: Maintain expertise in state-of-the-art layout design tools and technologies (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Mentor Graphics). Evaluate and integrate new tools and methodologies to enhance the layout design process.

Quality Assurance and Verification: Ensure that all layouts pass design rule checks (DRC), layout versus schematic (LVS) checks, and other verification processes to guarantee manufacturability and functionality. Address and resolve any issues identified during verification.

Project Management: Manage layout design projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and milestone tracking. Communicate project status and challenges to stakeholders and adjust project plans as necessary to meet deadlines.

Technical Documentation: Document layout guidelines, design decisions, and verification results. Prepare reports and presentations for internal reviews and design sign-offs.

Customer and Vendor Interaction: Interface with customers and foundry partners to understand fabrication constraints and ensure compliance with process design kits (PDKs). Adjust layouts as needed based on feedback and technology updates.

Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on semiconductor technologies and analog design.

Professional Experience: Extensive experience in analog IC layout, with a proven track record of successful leadership in layout design projects. Experience with deep sub-micron technologies is highly desirable.

Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of layout design principles, techniques, and tools. Familiarity with analog design concepts and challenges, such as noise analysis, power distribution, and thermal effects.

Leadership and Teamwork: Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team of layout engineers. Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, error-free layouts. Ability to identify and solve complex layout design challenges.

Project Management: Good project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and resource management. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Adaptability to rapidly changing technologies and methodologies in the semiconductor industry. Commitment to continuous learning and improvement in layout design techniques and tools.
